Aside from being loads more fun to drive the 4 speed transmission has highlighted the short comings in my exhaust system. After searching for a while on-line it seems no one makes a system including headers for the FJ62 any longer. Is this going to be a visit a local muffler shop type thing to get replaced? If so I am a little bummed. Wanted to do this myself and hoping to find bolt ons. A few years ago Walker made a system, now it is even NLA. Anyone else have any luck or options?

Keep the stock exhaust manifolds, they're very free flowing.

Find a good muffler shop local (if there is one) and have them build you an exhaust out of 11 ga Aluminized pipe (you don't need stainless), and use good mufflers, like Magnaflow. They can also to Weld-in or bolt in CATS to your preference. You'll also need bungs for the O2 sensors.

They can use larger pipe, like 3", and build into one CAT and muffler...

If there's a Muffler shop that does Hot Rod, Classic Cars, they usually do the best job...

Thanks for the suggestions. There are a couple of old hot rod shops still around. I will give them a try in the coming weeks. The headers don't appear too bad and could be cleaned and coated. Would this also be a good time to de-smog? Or will the truck run okay without the o2 sensors if I delete the cats?

FAIK, you'll need O2 sensors for the ECM (Fuel Inj) to function properly, at least the front one. Not sure if you can run with just one. Someone with a desmog'd 62 will have to answer that.

That's slicker than owl poop. I will keep that in mind too depending on what the hot rod shops say. If they tell me to go kick rocks this is a great alternative. More than I want to spend during a recession plagued by riots and other idiocy. But it must be done for I want to plow my way through the zombies with style, dignity and verve and you just can't do that with a rattly old exhaust.

The O2 sensors aren’t front/back, they split between each bank. Cyl 123 and 456. Batch fire

I’m trying to figure out what the reason for removing O2 sensors? Why ?

@cruisermatt I just thought it was part of the emissions system which I am looking to get rid of. If I get rid of the air pump I thought the o2 sensors would notice the lack of o2 being pumped through the system. If they can stay I am happy to leave them.

need some pics of how it looks... underneath, shifter, pedal ....

I'm thinking of this so wondering why you chose 4 speed over 5 speed... availability? price?

Almost positive you need to maintain the O2 sensors to keep the computer happy. They are not a big deal, any decent pipe shop can add them.
Removing them is not part of a desmog.

I think the computer goes into a kind of default mode if they go out no? But definitely keep them if you can, you need to squeeze all the performance out of the 3FE that you can.

Yes the O2 is an integral component to the EFI in the fj62. The O2 does nothing for the EGR or air pump systems. Without O2 sensors your fj62 will run and perform very poorly, your cats will fail, and you will get horrendous fuel mileage.

@Spook50 Yo man! When you de-smogged your 62 did you remove the O2 sensors? If so did the truck run okay?
No, the O2 sensors stay. They're needed so the ECU can measure and control the air/fuel mixture. They're a critical part of the fuel injection system, but separate from the smog control system. The catalytic converters can go though, but honestly I'll be having a new single pipe cat with a Flowmaster 50 series installed when I have a whole new exhaust built from the ground up.

@Seth S damn that's pretty. Pricey as hell though. Is this the same design as the one that was in the works a few years ago that went belly up?
