I recently purchased a used skyjacker lift. Supposed to be a 4". Only one spring has a legible sticker it says L40FS and is supposed to be the front spring. I measured and it is ~ 8" inverted to the spring bolt. That's only 2" more than the ones I took off 6". I thought my old ones were stock. I'll try to post a pick. The other ones I bought measure ~ 10". I thought they were for the rear. ImageUploadedByIH8MUD Forum1391308155.538360.webp

The front one I just took off. Middle says L40FS. The one in the back is 10" from floor to the spring.

Very quick search searching L40FS shows they are 4" LC Springs.

The springs have different spring rates so 2" of different height sitting on the ground does not necessarily = 2" of lift on the vehicle.

I'm slightly confused what your actual question is tho

Maybe you had a 2 1/2 inch lift before instead of stock? I say just bolt it on and see what it looks like. If you already have the old springs off its not much work to bolt on springs. Probably would be easiest route.

I didn't think it was lifted until I measured the spring once it was off. But I am just going to bolt the new one on.

When I took of my stock springs they where pretty much flat. Very slight arch.

Mine are definitely arched.

I hope you are right about spring rates. I have heard the 2" height on the ground vs. on the truck. I hope you are correct. I was hoping to gain 4" not just 2". And since I do not have enough jack stands to take off the rear springs while the fronts are off I wanted to make sure the springs that are almost exactly 4" higher than my old front ones didn't go on the front. I have done some searching and most people say that their front stock springs measure about 6".

I hope to get the front done today. I'll try to post a pic. I had to order the the extended brake hose from ****zone. I didn't want to do it but car quest was closed and Napa said that it is a dealer item. I went to ****zone and told them I needed the rear brake hose for a 1980 4x4 Nissan pu. It is a 22" hose. Part # 77255. $16.99 plus tax. Won't get to the store til Wednesday.

You also have to remember, you bought a USED set of lift springs not new so 4" lift might be optimistic depending on age and how worn out they are.

That's true too. I'm gonna get out there and try to bolt all this up. Thanks everyone for the replies.

To accurately measure the arcs of the springs, the eyes of the springs must all line up at each end. Put a very long bolt through them if you have to, then measure the arcs. You could/should take a tailors tape measure and measure the longest leaf from center of eye to eye.

Too late for that now. I've put on several lifts in the past and I've found that the best tools are penetrating oil, BFH, and perseverance. Just finished the front. Back is next.

Thanks for all the advice. Looks like I was worried for no reason. Seems like it lifted the front a lot.

On a side note; is that "Ed's Red" oil your using? If it is, are you using diesel, and it seems that your plastic spray bottle is holding up fine. We use diesel to clean a lot of parts an it'll eat right through a pair of latex gloves. Was always hesitant to make a batch, and have it desolve the plastic bottle it was contained in.

Thanks

Not sure about the bottle. I'll keep an eye on it. Maybe put it inside another container to protect my shop if it decides to fail.

Update, while installing the rear I broke a ubolt. I was planning on buying a new set, but didn't want to wait for them to arrive. I lack patience at times. Going to buy some from CCOT down the road from me. I also broke the hard line for my rear brakes whilst trying to unbolt the rear hose. ****. ****. This is a new one for me, but I'll get it done.

looks like it had a 2.5 lift before

I am not sure. It always sat a little higher in the front than in the rear. I notice that a lot on SBC conversions because of the lighter engine. I put a 2.5" over stock shackle in the rear to help level it out. I do not think I will ever know for sure if it had a lift on it already. The PO i bought it from only owned it for a few months. The guy he bought it from had some strange engineering techniques. The top had left over zip ties he had used to hold it on. :p

Bring it to the meeting February 13...We meet the second Thursday of the month at Papas BBQ.

I don't think that I'll have brake line repaired by then. I went to the meeting in November.
