37" tires

Delancy what are your specs? as far as suspension is concerned? wheel spacers? what lift springs? any body trimmings? etc....

That's KR's (search " akrilo ") PP 80.

Think he's J's with 1" wheel spacers.

Keep in mind that standard sized KM2s are notoriously small. Run 35x12.5x17s on another rig and they were around 33.5" new.

Not sure what akrilo's measure, but probably less than 37".

The 345 KM2s are a very wide 35-36" tire on the OE rims.

They almost look like balloons, not that it matters.

Another respondent stated more runner = better ride, but don't know that there's anymore than butt dyno to validate, and mine can't tell the difference.

Only reason I swapped was NOT benefitting from lower air pressures on a trip through slick rock in Clayton. At 10 psi they wouldn't grab anything, but wet rock.

The Krawlers, on the other hand, can run at 6 psi and stick like gecko paws....and I don't rub at all.

All of you running 37"s have re-geared or plan to in the immediate future, correct?

From what I have read, regearing is a "must" when you go larger than 35"....??

I ran 37's for a year on stock gears. I'd still be on stock gears if I hadn't destroyed my front r/p.

The regear necessity could be determined by butt dyno methodology and would personally recommend driving with OE gears before gearing, if nothing else, to feel the difference, therefore justifying the expenditure.

It is a big difference, in my opinion, but I'm not one that expects the 1FZ, pushing 500lbs of wheels and tires, to perform, nor do I drive it enough. ( kinda am now ) for the 9mpgs to be a huge issues.

When I line 'em up with the wife, her in a GX460, I'm only three car lengths behind at 60. Bahaha.

I just installed 37" tires on my 80 a few months ago. With the lack of selection in the 345 there was no way I was going to invest that much money in a 16" tire. I ended up getting some used 17" wheels. Unless you are strapped for cash which you are probably not since either tire is pretty expensive than I recommend going with 37's. From what I have seen the bfg 345 tires is like a underground limited edition microwbrew.

this is the reason I went with 37's on 17's too.

didnt want to be stuck not finding a replacement

so from what i get from everyone that is running 37s is that you guys are on 2.5" ome springs or J springs correct? and there should be no cutting involved if i keep the J springs. also should not have problems using the factory toyota 4 runner wheels with 17x7.5 et +15 with the 37x12.50R17....wheel spacers are optional?? or needed if I don't want to polish the rear frame! does this pretty much sum it up? or is there more to it?

^^^^ 37x12.5's and J's here. 0 offset wheels. Rubs inner frame in rear just slightly. I believe you need a spacer with the 4runner wheels (not 100% sure)

I do not know the exact reason this occurred, yet, but a word of warning about potential issues using FJC wheels.

I believe the studs are too short, based on a few wrenching sessions on this 80, but never would've thought this would be the result.

That is unfortunate. Wonder if spacers have longer studs to avoid such an event.

Got a set of FJC's with new rubber waiting to be installed, but I have spacers.

Yup. That's my rig. Figured I would post a feeler ad on clist. If they sell for the $2500, good. If not I will just keep them on there. Figured I would buy 5@ 345/75/16 KM2's for my oem rims if they sell. A little more road friendly. BUT the beadlock 37's sure look beefy on the 80.

For reference. The 37" Krawlers measure 36" tall mounted on the 17x9" wheel.

Off topic, but what color liner did you use on this?

Local's and yesterday afternoon.

When we tear into, going to measure everything to determine the cause.

Either there's not enough thread engagement or the lugs bottomed out. Don't know reason yet.

I think there could be more to it than that.

I ran FJC wheels for more than a year before getting larger tires that necessitated spacers to keep them off the frame. Never had a single issue with lug nuts coming loose. Improper torque seems as likely as anything, were the correct lug nuts used?
