A fairly lazy 2 hours on the lpb today.

Most of which was spent sanding down the ureathane primer on the headlight bezel I had sprayed a couple weeks ago. Fairly straight, but had a few rust pits in it, so it's going to need a couple passes of primer sanded out. Took a pic of the bezel....? Most of my time was spent working on the lv swapping out those rear springs on the lv. I tossed in a pic of the lv, I'll post a couple more from the side on the lv build thread.

My neighbor had been using my paint booth the last week painting his frame and tons of parts. Took a few pics of his junk also.

Why not square holes?

I guess easier to turn down the square part on the bolt in the lathe than try to file out the corners in 1/4" steel for 8 holes. At least that's the way I saw it.

Your rear bumper is awsome, would you be willing to make another?

Thanks, I think it turned out damm nice myself.

Yes, I would be will to make another. But, what if I posted up the dimensions of the plates and other steel. Would you be willing to make your own;)

Matt

Looks like you are close to wrapping this one up.

What's next?

Finish tweaking the wifes house this summer:D

Other than that.......nothing on the radar at the moment......;p

Matt

Thanks. Toro GroundsMaster 1000L with the 72" deck.

I like it a lot :)

Matt,

What do you do for a living that gives you so many hours to play in your shop, have access to so many tools and nice equipment and where did you learn so much metal working, welding, painting, machining, etc? Your work quality and speed is amazing!

I'm pretty sure it's called being the Boss man and having the coolest damn wife in the world. :)

Matt, your rigs are works of art.

So for your next project, how about a Rustic Green '73 FJ40 that's sitting in my garage in need of a resto? :D

My day job (and evenings sometimes) consists of me being in the hardware business.

As far as the hours in the shop....pretty much after work at 6 or 7pm and weekends if I'm not at the day job. Tools have been accumulating over 20+ years of working and tinkering, so haven't gotten most of them overnight. I kinda just get a few here and there as needed, otherwise try to make due with what I have. And as far as the skilz.....I would say I wear a lot of hats, some fit better than others :D Started working in an farm implement ag shop when I was 13 and getting a lot of hands on mechanical experience with different tools and equipment at that age. Over the years I have just tried to keep honing some of my skilz and I love to try new things. I have been pretty fortunate to have some really good friends around me who have helped me a lot with very specific skill sets.

As far as the quality.....wait until you see it in person and then you might change your mind. ;)

And......I do have one of the coolest wifes in the world :grinpimp:

Thanks, Matt

How'd it be to be able to mooch off yer neighbor's paint booth?

Just messin' with ya, I actually filed out some holes once on my '40 bumper that I haven't finished... I don't have a lathe ;). Hard to find square drill bits.

Keep up the good work, I will use your build up as a reference if I ever get to it.

Try this. It might work on soft metal. :flipoff2:

But seriously folks.

Matt, I was surprised to see you turning the bolt. How do you get it tightened up with no way to stop the bolt from turning?

I disagree. It would be much eaiser to use a high speed steel square step broach and a hydraulc press. You can find them at McMaster-Carr on page 2466.

The back of those carriage bolts have little grooves in them. As soon as you hit them with the impact wrench they tighten right up....not one of them turned. Worked great on the lv so figured I wouldn't mess with success ;p
