2nd group buy on DT Headers?

Well...I replaced the cracked passenger side manifold with the DT header. You need to be creative with your extensions, universal joints, sockets, etc. to get to some of the nuts/studs. The hardest part for me was getting to the lower front passenger side bolt/stud. All of my studs backed out so I was glad I purchased 16 new ones. I'll replace the drivers side this weekend. I'm gonna say I officially have 12 1/2 more hp with one DT header on! I'll let the pics speak for themselves:

No more ticking!

Mine are being installed right now.. passenger side is done, driver's side is off, just need to wiggle the DS one to get it in there. I'm glad I didn't take this one on myself, looks doable but I'd probably still be on side 1 at this point.. Robbie lives close by and I have no problem supporting his business.. plus he'll be really fast by the time he gets to you, Ken! :) He did have to remove the dipstick, and raise the engine up an inch or so on the DS. couple observations:

- mine have a date stamp of 05/02/2008 on them. The date is on the flange of the DS, is that the date for the flange? or for the whole header? If the header, and these were done in 2008, why did they take so long to ship? anyone else in this most recent group buy notice a date stamp?

- the O2 Sensor holes are 180° different from the stock ones. Makes the wiring more difficult to run, as there's not much slack. Anyone else have problems with the O2 sensor wires?

Looking forward to my first cruise this evening... :grinpimp:

Thanks, man. I searched for 02 sensor, and for whatever reason this didn't come up. So I'm just going to paste that again:

The O2 sensors won't reach their new location. You'll need to remove their wiring from the clips to re-route them. No cutting of wires is required. It's a bit of a bear to reach all the clips and impossible to do with the new headers in place so do this step once the manifolds are out but before the headers are in. Zip tie the O2 sensor wires to keep them from drooping on the hot headers and shorting out.

02 sensor, O2 sensor, 02 sensor, oxygen sensor, o2sensor.. ok hopefully that helps the next guy. :)

edit: you know, if someone wanted to over achieve here, it would benefit quite a few by separating out all of the "how to install" stuff from the "just called Nick" posts of the two group buy threads. A nice happy thread named "how to install DT headers" could have some use here..

Ok first impressions: Starting up the truck was nice and quiet, no more click click click.. not that my stock manifolds were bad, but I noticed they weren't ticking nonetheless. Driving around the neighborhood the exhaust sound is about the same. Maybe.. maybe a bit throatier, but really need to listen for it. The wife will never know the difference, that's for sure.

Stepped on it a couple times once I was out on the street- definitely has a little more power, felt like I was pushed back into the seat a little more particularly after 3000 rpm's. It's not substantial, but noticeable.

Shutting the truck off back in the garage, I had a LOT more clicks coming from everywhere else on the exhaust.. I wonder if more heat is now being transferred to the pipes so they're expanding more? this was only a 5 minute trip though. Or maybe things just got twisted a little during the install, and they need to settle down into their new home again. I've got 1000 miles planned for this coming weekend, so that should get them up to operating temperature.

Last thing is I smell something burning, wonder if it's oil on that coating or something burning off.. not bad or anything, kind of like it (like that new tire smell, but for exhaust stuff). I'm sure that will go away soon.

Yep, they'll smell 'hot' for the first few trips until they bake in and any grease/oil/residue is consumed.

I would love to do this but cannot find anyone to install them for a reasonable $'s.

Robbie also known as powder pig can do it in 5 hours at his hourly rate. You can find out how much that costs and make arrangements by pm'ng him here on mud. He lives in boulder so you can pay him extra to come to you or bring your truck to him

Anyone have a non-leaking passanger side manifold that they want to get rid of after installing your headers?

I will have a non leaking set by next weekend and live in SoCal...
