Hi - just ordered my DT headers direct from DT website - MY 2000 LC 100 short tube headers to incorporate existing cats. Price $975 but they do have have a 16 week lead-time - which is OK for me. Will free issue them to my shop - big job that would take me too long.... (approx $2400 labour cost)

yeah - agree - feel like a wimp and its not in keeping with the spirit of this site but I think this job is a step too far based on its complexity and crucially the time I have available - I have a good trustworthy shop to do the work (I use them for my Landrover) - also my usual Toyota indy shop would only fit OEM and they were coming in at $4.5k - so the $2.4k labour at the other shop seems about right, and I'd prefer to fit DTs rather than OEM due to the acknowledged / identified issue with the thin metal used on OEMs, and the inevitable failure.... Hopefully the DTs will be one and done - plan on keeping the vehicle for 20 years.

I looked up DT’s website and I don’t see a headers product specific for an 06. Are they still manufacturing that? Or is that something of a special order?

Dont know - saw what I needed & pulled trigger - suggest contact Jen at their office (tel # on the website) - she is informed and helpful. They are based in Arizona (ref time zone).

I have them for an 07, IIRC and I may be wrong is they weren’t advertised because they were waiting on CARB compliance. I could be off but that sticks in my brain, it’s been a few years.

Also my labor was $600, the highest I found was $1100. Prices sure have gone up quickly.

what a deal......

This job truly sucks balls - especially the driver side. My mechanic had to take off the oil check tube, steering column intermediate shaft, tilt up the engine to get the driver side off. Access to a couple of studs is horribly tight, even when on a lift.

Still $2.4k would make me think twice! Perhaps call around to get a better price?

One piece of advice is to insulate and route away the drivers side AC line which is pretty close to the header. I ended up replacing it after it burned through so I used some header wrap and strapped it to the fuel filter bracket. Don't get me started on the original broken rusty manifold bolts.

thx dude - much appreciated

I recently finished this job while also tackling the steering rack. I purchased DT Headers from Summit Racing which were in stock at the time but out of stock on the DT website.

Spray all nuts and bolts with penetrating oil well in advance and often. The job sucks because of the need to strain your body and hands in to tight spaces, but other than that, it’s just replacing nuts and bolts.

I just had a set of DT shorty headers and oem gaskets arrive yesterday. Waiting on 16 studs and nuts, the rear cat hardware, and cat gaskets to come from Partsouq and then I'm off to the races.

I'm going to do it next weekend, and I plan on putting it on jack stands tomorrow and getting the wheels, skids, and cats off. Then I will spray the manifold bolts every day for a week before doing the rest of the job.
