And what's the consensus from your friends Matt? They've probably put you a little further into the eccentric side I suppose?
Regards Andrew.

They all think I'm nuts except maybe Scotto who I popped up the road to get some smokes. He has felt the force is strong :D Obi1

YEP will all think he is nuts, but have to give him a thumbs ups for sticking to his plan and getting the results he was after.
But still think you can't go past the sound of a V8 in a 40, (alot cheaper too)
Thanks for the pic Matt

Got an email from TMCA's corparate manager yesterday asking how we had got so much out of a 2F :D

I was poking fun at the new TRD Hilux

Which although is very nice makes 225kw and 450NM @ fly from it's supercharged V6.

I said they could do better I can get more out of a 30 year old 2F:grinpimp:

Well tell him to donate one of those engines, (and the funds to work on it), and you will show him what you can get from it!

I think MUD can do better than TRD :D

I may try for a nice set of TRD Leather Bucket seat :D but if they ask I won't say no, but it depends on the budget :D

I've been testing NOT Hooning :D

Pre inter cooler cruising temp is 50C/122F
Full boost rises to 82C/180F

Post inter cooler cruising temp is 25C/77F
Full boost rises to 31C/87F

Note the heat rise was only on the second run first run showed a 1C drop post intercooler. After 5 runs no post intercooler temp over 31C/87F

Ambient 12C/53.5F

Calculated Temps are spot on too
Spent the evening calculating Turbo outlet temps for the Garrett GT3082R @ 70F/21C ambient and from what I can work out at 9psi the outlet temp should be around 180F/82C at 15psi the outlet temp rises to 227F/108C.

The photo of the graph below shows 2nd to 3rd to 4th

The Red line in the top graph is Pre intercooler temp, I am using the external map sensor input to read it so the scale is wrong, you have to multiply it by 1.82 Right side
Yellow is correct. hope that makes sense. Left side

MMMMMMM goes very good matt :) Couldn't stop smiling when we pulled up next to ppl and then just pulled away with almost no effort and lots of turbo whine! Can't wait to get it to comp!

You might have to get out less often and get to enjoy the ride

Bring on some big tyres:steer: New shocks and I'm good to go.

Took the thermostat housing apart to clean mmmmmm, lots of silicon sealent and once opened it looks like a fair bit of stop leak too that's dried hardened inside and around the thermostat. Also one of the 4 bolts was covered in stop leak where it looks as if it has been leaking up the thread untill it finaly sealed.

You just know this old 3F-E has had cooling issues in the past from the state of play.

What I was not expecting was this to have been an issue from new I guess, unless the thermostat housing has been replaced in the past, though unlikly.

After a good clean and re-assembling without a gasket I noticed one of the bolts would not thighten down (finger tight) anywhere near as much as the others. (2--3mm)
On close inspection I tested the depth of the two blind holes both the same. I messed around a little longer still a 2-3mm difference.
On even closer inspection I could actually see that the thread in one holes was shorter than the other, even though the holes were of the same depth. So even from new this thermostat housing would have always been a weak spot if not a complete pain in the a***, as it would have never tightened up to seal well.
Ran a 8mmx1.25 tap down it and now it's all good. Strange how the smallest of things can give so much trouble, you just wounder how many hours were spent with sealent and gaskets trying to get it right.

All good now though

How did you clean that or any other engine part? what's the procedure?
appreciate the help

Shot/Sand blasting.

If you don't have access to one, you can usually find a local shop that will do it for you and it's usually pretty cheap.

Something like the above would only take 30min tops.

PS have a look on Ebay you can pick one up from there at a reasonable price if you have lots to do. You will find you soon have lots more friends too :D

Got some of the white stuff Matt!
Where was that?
And... where are the nearest trails to go play in it:hhmm:

If we are not heading up to my mates hut out near Jindabyne we usually head up to Lake mountain a couple of times each season just to have a hike and snowball fight.

Mt Baw Baw :D

That looks like fun!

I'll trade that snow and cold ANY day for the heat and humidity we have here in KY. I HATE heat and humidity...

I don't know how folks survive in the tropics...

I must have eskimo genes... :D

I didn't know it snowed in Oz. Kinda odd looking at winter pics in the middle of July.

I'm spoiled here.

Snow Within 1.5hrs (Winter Only) Alpine region
Beach 20min
Rain forest 40min
Desert 3hrs and more we have every kind of terrain it just depends direction you head off in.

Parks Victoria: Parkweb.vic.gov.au

Will soon have a Troopy here in Oz decked out for touring HJ47 with long range tanks twin lockers and set up for camping 2009 with a warm 2HT

This will be for my own personal use as well as available for hire to fellow 4wd nuts from over seas, for either exploring Vic or taking on one of the full on desert trips like crossing the Simpson or Cape York.

Nice one Matt,
you're flying down that hill LOL:D

Melbourne is pretty good with the forest, the snow, the desert and the erhmm... beach:rolleyes: pitty the water is so damn cold.
I just bought a new full-steamer to enable me to actually get into the water again:eek:

Talking about snow- have you ever driven The Snowy River Road (C608)- cuts through the Alps from Vic, Orbost area straight up to Jindabyne (Barry Way). Crosses the snow line a few times.
We went through in the Forester the winter after the big fires went through. White snow everywhere, endless forrests of black trunks- all sprouting green leafy fuzz, no people for a whole day driving... friggin amazing.
Can't wait to do that road again.

(btw- NW VIC, 'Sunset Country' was one of my favourite camping trips- flies were so bad we had to escape them and go fourwheeling everyday :D)

It's been high 80's to low 90's (F) here, but a month ago on June 11th I had about that much snow on my cruisers, and it is so called summer here.

So the intercooler was cooling the airload too much in the cooler temps. I always wondered about that in cold temps. I ran an open air filter on my 40 with a Holley carb for years, had headers too, so that made the problem worse, but getting it to run in cold weather was a fight. I'm rigged up more for cold weather running than hot weather. For about three months a year, my fuel system is too hot, but the rest of the year it does quite well.
