2022 Tundra Revealed

The touch screen on my 2017 Tundra becomes basically useless when the sun is out.

Completely useless if I have sunglasses on.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that admits to polarized lenses blocking out a display. Double din radios in 80’s are the worst due to location. Can’t even turn my head right to see that low that long safely.

I’m assuming you meant polarized glasses, not the ZZTop kind.

Happy I bought a Tremor. The new Tundra is a big disappointment in the looks department.

Just make a simple work hard and last a long time truck. Why so much angles and lights and dumb grill and plastic? For the love of all things holy.
Thank you.
It will never happen but thanks for saying that.
Anymore you have to order a "dumbed down" LT or work vehicle to get a basic truck anymore. That's what I had to do with the 2016 2500HD I needed.

Full details drop tonight at 9:00 ET. Looking forward to seeing the power train options, hopefully a couple cool looking trims south of the TRD Pro.

Digital camo trim and massive video screens!
Should bring some serious bro cred to the truck.

Watched a ten minute introductory video and I can't remember one meaningful thing about the bed other than its made of some lightweight material.

Oh and big props to Toyota for running an FJ45 with a flipped bezel in the 30 second national ad.

Missed the reveal but looking on toyotas site- i don't see any pics of the stripped down steelie spec trucks...I can appreciate how they made the interior similar to the tacoma, it makes sense.
My biggest problem with pickups is finding one that can accommodate 4 children, a spouse and myself- so I wonder if they'll offer bench seat with flip down center console like they have done up until this point.

This is my issue as well. The big 3 all have split bench options. The Silverado is increasingly attractive to me. You can get the Trail Boss in the lower Custom trim, cloth seats with front bench and in 2022 you can get it with the I-6 Duramax.

So there is supposed to be a SR trim level, but at this unveiling the lowest trim level they had on display was the SR5. There is still a chance for a stripped down truck. Knowing how frugal Toyota is in the manufacturing process, I have my doubts that they offer a bench seat configuration for one trim level, but they should.

I’m liking what I’m seeing on paper. I’m looking forward to seeing the real world MPG results and the pricing. The truck is better looking in these videos. I also like the tailgate drop button located in the tail light.

The gray looks much better than the white. Kind of s***ty they only spec the hybrid for the TRD Pro. The trim levels basically match the Tacoma. The TRD OR will have the rear locker and Toyota's electronic off road wizardry with none of the Pro accoutrements. I was also hoping they'd surprise everyone with a diesel option.

This is so obnoxious. It's bigger than the damn steering wheel. Laptop screens are smaller than this. I haven't seen any pictures of the smaller 8 inch screen and only one pic of the analog gauge cluster, unfortunately with this monstrosity as well.

Overall, I think it looks alright. They all start off fugly until you get used to them. It'll probably make a good daily driver.....good power, reasonably fuel efficient, smooth ride, reliable, with enough capability to tow a 40, tractor, or dump trailer on weekends.

Likes: Better fuel efficiency and power, improved towing and payload, rear locker offered in most trim levels, roll down rear window, choice of bed lengths, composite bed, interior looks good except for the giant screen, if I have to buy a turbo motor I trust Toyota more than the others, camera systems, available dealer installed 3.5" lift kit.

Dislikes: There's no good way to step into the bed with the tailgate down, hybrid is the only engine option with the TRD Pro, loss of under rear seat storage with hybrid option, non-TRD Pro front grills are fugly, price?

Ya I’m not a big fan of the big screen. And let’s face it if you buy a Tundra to be an every day 10,000 lbs trailer towter you bought the wrong truck. 89% of the Tundras never see trailer use.
I think I’d own one in (after the bugs are worked out) if I had more than 200,000 on my 5.7 V8. Let’s face it there is “No replacement for displacement!”

I’m in the market to replace my beater 270k mile Honda Ridgeline with a real truck that has enough capability to tow the 40 to events and also a 7000lb tractor sitting on a ~3000lb trailer, so the 12,000lb tow rating of the new Tundra is nice. However, when you start towing 10k+ it’s probably better to go with a 3/4 ton.

@HoundDog people do it all the time. I traded from a 3/4 Ford to a 1/2 Tundra and the Tundra tows 10,000 great 5-6 times a year. And it rides nice driving around town. The Ford was a diesel and towed 10,000 lbs great. If I was towing more cross country I would go for the Diesel 3/4 ton. But you give up a car like ride around town. I have to lower the air pressure out of our company 3/4 ton trucks when I drive it.

Finally found a picture of the smaller screen. That's more like it.

I assume this is the SR trim, maybe SR5.

I'd be embarrassed to drive that abomination. And I do not embarrass too easily.

Toyota used to make very attractive looking trucks.
