@Blown3UR your 80 is looking good Mashallah. Love the sleek stockish look. Is your PTO under the license plate?

As for the 76, any chance you can test drive it before you decide? Its all a matter of personal taste and needs really, and I dont want to turn you off your decision. I dont want to be the guy!

Man I would love to see the Toyota guy's garage. All diesel cruisers is sweet. Especially the 80 HDT. Is it manual and LHD? I know the owner and the sons of ALJ here very well, and none of them are into cruisers. I'll definilty hit you up next time I'm in Doha.

@gkanai thanks for the post. Another 690 Enduro rider! I just picked mine up a couple of months ago, 2014 model. Absolutley love it. Just installed a Wings silencer. What a difference.

Just to clarify, when I meant the 79 DC rides better and softer than the 76, I am referring to both set ups in lifted 2" OME mode, and not in stock trim. In stock trim, with its 13 leaf packs, the 79 DC is horrible compared to the 76 with its 7 leaf packs in the rear. Now I am running 400kgs (CS014R OME P/N) springs, and those are much nicer and plusher than the 76 OME rear springs in medium rating. So if you're going to keep the rig's suspension stock, then yes the 76 is better. Also maybe you may want the short turning radius. How are the roads and trails in Japan? If narrow and tight, then you'll love the 76 turning radius.

As for loading the bike on the tub, have not done it yet. I know the tailgate will have to remain open though for the bike to fit square.

Should you go with the 76, the below set up is a great option.

(Took the pic off instagram)

Pls dont be deterred. Either truck and you cant go wrong. Its a matter of what each person prefers!

Thanks for the clarification- that helps a lot actually. I do need the smaller turning radius of the 76 in Japan, so I think I will stick with my order as is. I haven't decided what I want to do wrt suspension yet but will ask for your advice when the time comes. There is an ARB distributor in Japan although not many other 70 Series aftermarket options. Looks like the Australians have the largest aftermarket for the 70 Series.

Thanks also for the photo of the bike carrier. Do you know which model that is?

The 690 is a really versatile bike. You can set it up with 17" wheels from the SMC and run it as a supermoto; you can get a whole new fairing and tanks and make a Rally bike; RoninMoto on ADV just finished up a RTW trip and put 140,000+ kms on a 2008 690, although I think the engine finally gave up at the end. The main thread on ADV is the WUNDERFEST thread but there are a bunch of others too.

Not sure about the bike basket set up in the pic. It could very well be a DIY job, as they're pretty straighforward to make.

As for RoninMoto, I follow him on ADV. What an adventure! I've got the Rally kit sitting on the shelf at home, and will install it in the summer when the riding season is over.

Pls post up pics of your 76 when you get it. Those 30th special editions sure do look sweet!

Hey Man,
My apologies for the late reply I was in the desert for a few days.. I actually just noticed that none of the pics show the PTO installed.. I just bought a factory replacement winch bumper and a 79 series winch cover (had it lying around in the store and just thought I'd put it to use).

For the 76, unfortunately, the dealership do not offer test drives on any.. The 70 series line is far and few here albeit the 79 single cab long bed.
Basically buying any will be some sort of a risk and reselling if I decide I don't like it will be quite challenging unless it was a used 71.
I had a pic of that HDT 80 but I cant find it.. I'll definitely snap photos when I'm there again and post them on here.
Be sure to give me a shout when you're in town.. I'll show you around and offer you the 80 to use when In town how does that sound :)

Here are some of the long travel and high lift projects I do at our store here in Qatar.. The white LC200 is mine running ICON suspension, fully adjustable rear links, and a unibal UCA.

The Merc was my DD before the 200.. It was the first and last Non-LC DD for me, not a bad truck it just started falling apart even with relatively light offroad to what the LCs deal with on a weekly basis.

This is also mine... Whoops why do I feel that I'm going to get whipped for that haha.

@Blown3UR : What's your opinion of the factory winch option on the 76? I wasn't planning on it as I was thinking about an ARB front end and therefore a Warn to go with that but the factory option is cleaner. Would it be possible to go to a synthetic winch cord on the factory winch? I have no idea what the specs of the factory winch....

I personally would go with the factory winch for a cleaner look.. I'm not 100% certain but i believe the electrical winch is rated at around 8500lbs, Hydraulic (which has been discontinued now) at 12500 and the PTO at 16500 (limited by the strenght of the the cord).

You can definately convert the factory winch cord with a synthetic alternative, i've done it on a few trucks.. That paired with a fairlead and you can double the output of your factory winch savely and maintain the stock look, benefit from the factory warantee and possibly even increase desirability and resale value when its time to sell.

Small update...

I met a friend yesterday who came along with a new 79 4-door which I took for a spin.. I gt agree with boozewz.. The 80 felt a lot more modern, I felt the truck didn't do any of what I wanted it to.. It was extremely tough on imperfections, stability was so and so.. The 80 series is definitely a much better candidate for the job..

Thank you for all the help and my apologies for partially hijacking the thread.

:clap:Very cool!
Awesome photos.

@r083rt These are stuck on by the local dealer here. I tried to get a set but have not had any luck. They apparently stick them on at the PDI center as soon as all new vehicles arrive from the port. No customer is allowed to access to that area, which is outside the city boundary.

As soon as I get a hold of some, I'll let you know.

So awesome!!! Love love LOVE the 76 series and one of my dreams. The 79 is awesome and will always hold a high place for me. So jealous that the rest of the world gets these awesome vehicles.

Boosewz,
You have an fantastic thread here, and i had to put a bib on for the drool: the pictures of the country you get to wheel in are fabulous, and the cars in their natural element! Be still, my beating heart...
I cannot honestly say i am jealous of your vehicles, as to me Troopies are life. Having said that, i do fall for all sorts of LandCruisers...
What i am really jealous of is the Michelin tires on your DC. The only way one can get them in Canada, as of my checking a few years ago, is by buying used ones cast off by the Canadian military. Yes, they can be re-treaded, but i don't trust those. Too late now, as i got myself some other bias-plies for whenever i get on my long-distance travels. Still, those Michelins are hard to beat.
Hats off, Mister! And thanks for posting.

Thank you @gregnash and @61Mk+ much appreciated.

The weather has been awesome lately, we're having our own cold snap, but alas between work and the fam, have not had any time to do any camping this season. Temps are expected to be below zero celsius in the mountains 2hrs from Jeddah tomorrow. Would have been a great trip!

Hey there.

Nice trucks.

I'm located in Makkah. Where did you get your side stickers removed from?

Is that yours for sale on Haraj.com?

If you're interested in a trade, I have a 2015 '76 with a 1HZ a lot of upgrades including a turbo and intercooler, OME's. I think a truck would suit my needs a bit better too though. I'll post some pics.

Yes it is. After nearly 3 years of owning it, but sparingly used, I sold it last week. While it is great truck, and I enjoyed it immensely on several trips that we did, there was something about it that was lacking. Maybe its the harsh ride and long turning radius. Also, with a young family, I want to start taking them on trips, and they always prefer to ride in the 62 or 80, so I know the 79 wont see much action. It was time to move on. I got a great price and sold it to an interesting fella, so its in good hands.

This is the last pic I have of it on file.

Till then.
