Has anyone attempted to do this for a 200? I am probably at least a year out from buying a 200 but I look daily. I am concerned with the factory navigation. I feel long term it will be archaic and the longer I wait the harder it will be to find parts to do the conversion. In the 100 forum we have successfully deleted the navigation in the pre 03 and the 03-07 series using Toyota parts and retaining all factory functions. This setup allows for a standard Double DIN receiver with or without navigation of your choice. The Toyota back up cam can be integrated into the new Double DIN along with the steering wheel control.

Pre-03 nav delete how-to

post 2003 nav delete how to.

I purchased a 2009 EWD and I have been tracing out the wires. It is a little more involved but without one here to take apart it is hard to grasp the differences. I found this picture on Ebay of the rear terminals of the Nav unit.

Does anyone have any photos of the rear of their navigation and radio units? I am looking for the pins as shown above. The FSM shows all of the plugs but it is tough to tell which plugs actually attach to the back of the radio/nav units. If we have any members with a non-nav 200 with photos that would be huge.

I have found the part number for the AC Climate control 55900-60F11. This looks like the AC controls that come with the overseas cruisers.

Here is a kit that allows the mounting into the dash. According to the FSM there is not many differences between the Nav and Non-Nav. I find it hard to believe that 90% of the pins are the same but the FSM does not differentiate between the nav and non-nav in the EWD.

This project will probably be revenue neutral because you can sell your navigation TV screen, nav disk, radio control etc. I have not driven the 200 so I am only guessing as to what the factory nav display contains. I am guessing it contains fuel mileage info and maintenance schedules. If there is more on the screen than that please advise. I would hate to rip out some important features that cannot be replicated with the manual control setup. If anyone has any photos of these items please share. Thanks

Besides HVAC you wouldn't miss a thing as all of the vehicle information is on the meter screen.

With that said I find the 08 nav unobstrusive - coming from someone who HATES the 100 series nav.

My simple answer to doing away with the archaic Nav unit is...

Display Button...

Screen Off.

Boom. My dash now feels acceptable again, and the screen only pops on to make other adjustments as needed...like climate etc. When you make your adjustments...it goes away again and all is right with the world.

Not even modern Navi units compete with Google Maps, Waze or others anyway...and trails off netwaork can be downloaded ahead of time onto a phone or tablet.

Try it! Turn the screen off, and you will smile at your dash again. :)

There is a company that posts their delete kits on the Australia 200 FB pages, I don't know anyone that had fitted one to a US model but I have no doubt it's possible. 200's sans Nav all over out there.

I agree. I use Waze with a windshield attachment. I was just looking for a way to upgrade the head unit to something more modern. If I buy the 200 I plan on keeping it a long time.

I actually don't mind the OE Nav (version 2013). While I never use it to actually navigate or route around traffic, it is nice to have it always up as a quick reference. I don't always put Waze up on the windshield mount and there are times when I just want to see where a particular cross-street is when I'm only vaguely familiar with an area. It's always up and running for that purpose. There is also the reliability of having a non-cloud based map as a backup in remote areas.

However, this topic begs the question of why manufacturers spend thousands on hardware/software/map licenses to do something that is at best mediocre compared to what is in our pockets? If only there were a full-function, no-hassel screen port. I would love having everthing on my i7 up on the 9" factory screen. Wouldn't that feature save huge in development costs? Perhaps there's assumed liability of a user being distracted by attempting to text on the factory screen, but I would think that could be either software limited or liability waived by a disclaimer prompt.

The new double din stereos have Waze and apple car play. They are as current as can be.

It's called Android Auto, or Apple CarPlay. Toyota is notorious at being slow to add tech like this to their cars, maybe they don't want to pay the ransom fees. But they are starting to show up in other models.

I put an aftermarket Pioneer double-DIN touch screen head unit in our Highlander last summer, I finally had enough of the pathetic factory unit with no Aux input, and I wanted the car to have a backup camera. This unit has Android Auto as an option, but you have to connect with a USB cable, which is a nuisance. They do this because the constant data streaming kills the battery in the phone in no time, but I see articles that they've fixed that now, Bluetooth is am option. It basically mirrors the phone screen on the head unit, although somewhat simplified. It works... OK, but not great, and not worth the hassle. On the very rare occasions that she needs nav, it's fine to just listen to the voice from Google.

Like every new technology, it will get better with time.

Like @Markuson says, I just keep the nav screen off, never use it. I'm certainly not about to spend $$$ to update the 7 year old DVD.

Carplay is OK, but it's not a true screen mirror and it's a limited set of apps. And the limited interaction that I've had with them shows quite a bit of screen lag comparted to the native device. I would have thought that the external display could be configured as a remote i/o and display device and save the intermediate application layer on the remote head. Wireless would be ideal, but I'd be fine with a USB plug for now.

Still begs the question of why Toyota et al invest in the technology when the majority of buyers don't use it. Is it nothing mnore than showroom jewelry? If they're looking to invest in things for the minority of users, then I say invest in manual trans, lockers, and diesels.

I was mirorring Waze from my iphone to a Pioneer head unit via AppRadio until I got an Android head unit. The Android is much better to use. With AppRadio, the phone had to be plugged in with the screen unlocked, and it gets hot because of the mirorring and charging going on at the same time. I would imagine it's the same with CarPlay. With the Android head unit, I just tether my phone's data to it. It doesn't get as hot as before and doesn't drain the battery as much.

Lots of non-Nav 200s also seem to have ended up in Puerto Rico, too.

On the same subject, do any of you know if there have been any 200-series LX 570s produced without Nav?

I'm glad to hear there are some others who don't like Nav. :) I've always been very happy that my GX 470 doesn't have it, and wish my LX didn't. Aside from the fact that it'll eventually crap out, most likely, I MUCH prefer to have the dedicated old-school controls for various functions instead of punching around on the annoying touch screens.

Regarding CarPlay or Android Auto, I've personally heard a Toyota VP address this question about 2 years ago. She said that they did NOT plan to go there and allow 3rd party access to the vehicle BECAUSE of the liability/possibility that something might happen like the infamous incident with the Jeep.

Wonder if that VP still works there

2019 Toyota Avalon has confirmed Apple CarPlay.

Other Toyota/lexus will also now be getting them, confirmed.

No, Navigation has been standard on the LX570 since it was introduced.

In my non-nav 200, the radio plugs are the standard 1987-up Toyota radio plugs (10 pin and 6 pin) plus a separate plug for the steering wheel controls. I'll see if I can take apart the dash this weekend and take a photo of the backside of the climate control unit

If you could that would be very helpful. I am looking for the plugs on the back of the climate control unit. I am trying to determine how many plugs are actually in play. The FSM does not show different climate wiring between the nav and non-nav. I am having a hard time believing the pin outs are exactly the same on the two. The radio are generally standard but the more photos the merrier.

I would like my display just to stay on Radio controls all the time. The navigation screen keeps popping up after a minute.

I had some free time today and decided to pull apart the dash and take some photos. The part number on my 2011 LHD VDJ200 is 55900-60F41. The part number may be different on the 2013 since those have a green backlight on the LCD screen instead of the bluish-aqua backlight on the 2008-2011
