nope, drilled out the hole to 1/2" and a grade 8 bolt, washer and nut...
the frame is not thick enough to thread something that important into.

the top and bottom frame rails for a good section is double thickness (inner / outer C channels interlocked) but the side is just single...

Anti-seize on the bushings is a good tip - esp as I hopefully am doing some spring fitting this weekend. Not a huge fan of poly but we see.... Ones I had on a Defender seemed to just fall apart. Why do some people disagree with your anti-seize method?

1HZ into a 40 is parked in my fantasy garage

i not a big fan either but there are 4 bushings that you can not get from toyota for this kit so... hands are tied.

When are we getting an update Wayne ? I am almost at this stage(but no 1HZ, unfortunately) so this thread is very usefull to me !

Are those 40 ser Dakar springs ? How much longer are those extended shackles ? Did you move the shackle hangers from their stock location to improve the shackle angle or is it not needed ?

Sorry for all the Q's :whoops:

updates...
i didn't think anyone was following the thread any longer...

the replacement tranny mount is made
the custom t/case skid bars are done

waiting for the 7* disc rear from the states
waiting for the 12V e/locker diffs from Japan
waiting for the 12V e/locker front hubs from "someone", got a call into Radd Cruisers and 4 wheel but neither have responded with a price or time frame so might end up going new from Japan

the rear bumper, exhaust, skid bar, tranny mount are off to the powdercoaters
the front bumper from Man-a-free is being modified since i do not like the mounting system
i have to modifiy the front diff housing to accept the e/locker front and then sent to the powder coaters
i will have to tear down and redo the rear diff due to swaping in the 12V e/locker as well as move the spring perchases (anyone have the Mopar part number handy for the spring mounts?) and then get the rear diff housing powder coated.

THEN

i can get a rolling chassis to install the engine/tranny/t/case into...

sorry for not keeping the thread alive...

Also watching

Hi Wayne,

I'm also watching with interest. I now have the 1HZ engine and will start looking for H55 + Split case xfer.

Many thanks for sharing your experiences, they are a valuable resource.

Cheers,

Jim BTW

great build!

Hey Wayne awesome write up, great info... I replaced all the brake lines on my truck with SS... t isn't as easy to bend with your hands (I actually ended up buying a small tube bender for tight bends) and sometimes when you flare the line will split on the seam (where regular steel lines have no seam)... but other than that I didn't have too much difficulty with them... This is the 2nd winter with the SS on the truck and they don't have any rust on them at all... Of course my rig is covered in Krown, so regular steel lines would probably look the same...

Keep up the good work... You the man cool guy!!!

cheers

Also subscribed and eagerly awaiting pictures...

Yeah! What gives Wayne?!?! I need my fix. Since I can't be at home playing with mine, I want to see your 1HZ build....

the front will be left till the parts arrive from Japan in Jan.
the elocking diffs have been located (discontinued by Toyota)
long spline axles have been located
elocking front hubs have been located
some of the wiring also.

see yah monday...

waiting for the 12V e/locker front hubs from "someone", got a call into Radd Cruisers and 4 wheel but neither have responded with a price or time frame so might end up going new from Japan

I am off for awhile but can call John and ask him about the availability of hubs.

Edit edit, missed your last post.

waiting waiting waiting, i am getting sick of waiting for parts...
so a brief update:
the studs stick down and could get damaged quite easily so a set of skid plates were fashioned up

strong enough to lift the truck on. held on with 2 grade 8 bolts...

next we need to build a proper skid plate for the t/case... instead of the typical plate skid plate i decided to go with 1 1/4 pipe...
first to bend the main front bar to fit the tranny crossmember. this allows the bar to be flush with the crossmember and help prevent brush and rocks from catching it.

then a rear crossmember and bars are fitted...
you will notice a difference from the first test and the final one...ooops, i forgot to bend the 2 for under the t/case with a drop...
fixed

i wanted to strengthen the mounting of the front bumper so i removed the triangles and installed 2 peices of 1/4 flat bar one top with 2 bolts and one for the bottom with 1 bolt...
this will strengthen the mounts so when winching the strain is on the entire frame, not just top and side...

the bottom needed massaging...
