Builds 1HDT H55 INTO A FJ40--Some questions/Some answers

H55 is more than 4" shorter than a h150/1 combo.

The key identifying feature is the case of the h55 is black cast iron vs the aluminum h150/1 (and R15x) series.

(furthermore, the R series transmission have shifter in rear section while shift tower on h15x series is in front).

H15x series in a 40 series is close to being too long an option with a short rear driveline

if IIRC Joe ( JoeKatana ) used an H151 wich came factory behind the 1HD-T engine .. can't recall if he move the rear axle .. but I want to say yes he did .. he's rear DS was pretty decent all in all .

i would say, if you are thinking of running the R151 behind the 1HZ then plan on using a 43/44 platform.

R/H 151s have solenoid (or something) operated transfers too don't they? That's another thing to have to sort out.

And no parking brake on the transfer.

HF2A* or HF1A t-cases use in some models an electronic ( electric motor ) actuator to engage the front DS ( HF1A part time t-case ) or the CDL ( HF2A* full time cases )

There are few models that are full manual ( so far I only seen those full manual / mechanical in part time versions so I guess HF1A )

1HDT Radiator issues

Gents,

Got my aluminum 3 core radiator from Champion (ordered monday, got it Wednesday!) well when i went to put it in the lower outlet bumps into the fan. So what did I do different? Is my motor more forward that usual? What do I do now?
What I see as my easiest possible solution is to remove the fan and install an electric fan. Is this possible?

did you shift the rad over?
you can not locate the rad in the original location.

And we went Tarus electric fan.

I don't see having any room to shift rad over. I am trying to shift it more towards the passenger side stil don't have the room.

I have an electric fan on the faux-lux.

Wayne's hate isn't enough for my dislike of the thing. It's a 40,000 mile unit. Seriously, they seem to fail about every 40,000 miles for me.

If there's any possible way to make the mechanical fan work, I'd definitely push for it.

Back in the day

I cannot find any of the old hzt45 pics, some on Pirates tho..

Lots of room if you move the motor back about two fingers from the fire wall..

Also running a Champion radiator with the 1HD-FT in the 45. With my install the rad is lower in the bracket (cut), and the lower outlet was moved slightly by a radiator shop. Georg would know the exact details.

thanks for all the responses guys. I will look to keep the fan if possible and see what I can do to alter the position of the radiator to make it happen.

if anyone has any pics of what I should do before I make any cuts/alterations I would appreciate it.

Drop the hole radiator down or put the outlet lower in the rad, definitely keep a mechanical fan.

I didn't install it. My fabricator did it. Crusher I saw you build and it looks like your radiator outlet is on the driver side. Is that correct? Mine is passenger and no way to move it enough to get fan workibg
