You will not have the intake heater if you get rid of the crossover. I don't know the climate over there, but mines missing and it doesn't have trouble starting till it's well below 0°c.

The Cruiser got new “maroon” fender flare gaskets and hardware.

No FTE out today, I was doing to much Fab-dirty work in the shop for it.

Cheers

We got the FTE out, went through the hundreds of nuts, bolts and washers we have and labeled all the bags. Got it on a stand, set cam and crank to TDC. Pulled the water pump and replaced it’s gasket. Started installing timing belt and we still need a tensioner, that will be here Monday. Got the p/s pump on and also the water outlet and thermostat installed.

What is the plan with power steering? Some are saying that the steering with 100 pump on the 80 is very hard. Some put the pump and banjo from the 79 claiming it has better effect. I am actually going with the 100 pump, 80 banjo bolt and high pressure hose. The low pressure output on the 100 pump is hitting the steering box, so will need to cut and weld it to the other side.

Plan is to deal with it when we get there. Onur sent the pump, I don’t know if it is for an HDJ100 or the HDJ78/79.

As you mention there certainly could be a difference since the HDJ100 would have had a rack and pinion vs an actual steering box like the 78/79.

John, Onur and myself are all working on and through all this. None of us have done an FTE in an 80-series before not to mention the H152 so a lot of new ground here for all three of us. I have worked on the 1PZ and 1HZ a lot along with the 1HDT & FT. This is the first FTE I have had my hands on but they are all very similar.

Cheers

So we decided to give the FTE a good coat of paint before bolting anything else on.

You can see the factory paint is a bit thin here and there or none at all.

So we are taping it off for a fresh coat.

I will be using this to give it a fresh coat once we are prepped.

👍 Looks like there may have been a few other good parts in that bundle!

No decision yet. May not chip it right from the start.
Thats cool. If you do, I am currently having alot of trouble with my DTE chip that I got through Gturbo. The connection in the main plug is problematic, often makes the chip cut in and out. If i had my time and money again, I would use a unichip Q4. Just a heads up.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Brodie. Will definitely add this to our database of growing knowledge from our Oz amigos. :)

Definitely read a lot of good things about the Unichip. There seems to be a growing preference for that one.

I bought the gturbo DTE pre tuned module, reason is that there is no 1hdfte experienced tuners around me so I would have troubles to make the unichip working. I didn't hear a lot of issues with the gturbo module recently.

No experienced FTE tuners in my area either! Just going to keep the stock tune to start.

Gturbo and PDI sell the DTE, so you can order one with a tune pre-loaded. From having @Indestructible 47 truck on the dyno with the pre loaded tune, they're pretty well on the money. We upped the boost a bit because he tows and would benefit from a bit cooler EGT on long pulls, but in no way was the tune it came with unsafe. The only negative is the connection issues which IMHO is unsatisfactory

I have installed an FTE with a Gturbo module, Gturbo red wheel turbo and PDI Front mount intercooler on a 96 LX450.

would be happy to assist in anything as needed.
