Yessir, I have 4.11 gears.

But also 4:1 t-case with 10% underdrive in high. And stock 235/85/16 tires.

I actually don’t know that it’s “screaming” since I haven’t hooked up the tach.

It's screaming, at least mine is with 4.11 gears and 4:1 t-case; even with 35" tires. No tach, but it's obvious...

Over the weekend I drove the truck to Navasota, TX, which is about 100 miles from my home. I met some buddies for a quail hunt and we spent the night at a cool AirBnB. Everyone had a blast, we shot tons of birds, and the truck performed flawlessly.

However, I’m going to need to re-gear the diffs if I want to keep driving on Texas highways. Maybe some rubber overdrive too. I kept it between 50 and 55 mph and the truck averaged over 21 mpg. At that consumption, I could drive over 1,000 miles before I needed to stop for fuel!

When I had my poverty pack HZJ80, it definitely sounded a lot more like the latter at highway speeds. That’s what I knew I needed to slow down.

Very nice! I think the truck will perform very well with 3.7 diff gears and 35” tires. That would give a better-than-stock final drive in both 4low crawling in 1st gear, and 2high cruising in 5th gear.

The interior grab handles had seen better days. The heat and sun from the Middle East had destroyed the finish and they were turning to dust.

I went out on a limb and assumed that grab handles from a 3rd gen 4Runner would work, and they fit perfectly.

I chose beige to try to match the old ones (but maybe should have used gray). I think they look good.

When I first purchased the truck, the interior and exterior door handles were the wrong color. The PO had just swapped brown for the interior door handles, and the exterior chrome handles had been oversprayed with beige because they didn’t mask anything off.

I hate chrome, but I really hated the oversprayed handles.

Today I swapped to the “correct” colors. These are just cheap made-in-Taiwan replacements for a 1st gen 4Runner, but they work and look 1,000x better IMHO.

The interior door handles are for a 1995 to 2000 Toyota Tacoma.

The exterior door handles are for a 1984 to 1988 Pickup, or 1984 to 1989 4Runner.

I found them all on Ebay. They come in a variety of colors.

I also ordered window cranks using the same strategy. Mine cracked when I removed them to install the door handles.

Full disclosure, my exterior handle installation did require opening the mounting holes on the steel door skin about 1/16” with a grinding burr.

I expect this was due to body filler used on the door during repaint, and tolerances in the manufacturing process for the cheap door handles. It didn’t bother me, but wanted you to know.

You can know the exact date of manufacture by looking on the RH side of the engine block, back by the #6 cylinder and you should see some numbers. Same with the bearing retainer, which will be up front by the oil pump case. They should be within 6-7 days of each other.

The freeze plug at the top of the block below the head should have a handwritten date on it-- if it's still there. That will be the month day of final assembly. That's the final freeze plug they install into the block.

Small update - My ARB front bumper has integrated turn signals. ARB includes these cheesy taps to wire the signals. When I installed the bumper, I didn’t bother to use the taps because I wanted to do something cleaner. ‘Finally got around to it this afternoon.

I spliced the pigtail from the stock turn signal assembly and wired Metri-Pack connectors. Took longer than I expected, but it looks good.

Signals work!
