Gents, just wanted to say thank you for all the great info on the H55 and the different setups. It has helped me identify the h55 I just pulled out of the junkyard this week from a VM powered rig.

Great thread!

Glad it helped, Chuck!!!! @ChuckB

Late in January, my friend Chris and I flew to Dallas (Texas), rented a little Budget Box Truck, and picked up some light parts from Joe @joekatana. Here are some photos to go with the updates:

It was a pleasure to finally meet Joe in person. We were able to have lunch and spend a few hours while loading the parts into the box truck.

Joe was also gracious enough to let us take his LJ73 shop truck for a spin while in Texas

Chris and I went to have dinner at the Gas Monkey Garage Bar and Grill (Chris is a fan of the show)

Then we started driving back home. On the way back we stopped to have lunch with Chris @Delancy in Oklahoma and got to drive his HZJ73

And finally back home. Just to add, a photo of the box truck that we drove from Texas to Ohio:

I bet it's hard to drive back into Ohio. On purpose.

:)

What's the history on the 1HZ? You're going to love the power.
Intercooler while you're at it?

Which is why I left many years ago. Couldn't pay me to live in OH ever again.

I'mm trying to convince Alberto to leave!!

Motivation??! I wouldn't be able to sleep at night, unless I was in or under that cruiser. Sick - one of the sickest.

EDIT: Nice, will you get it powdercoated or painted?

Thanks for the kind comments!!

I debated for a long while about leaving it just plain galvanized, painted with POR15, or powder-coated it. I asked a lot of opinions and the majority agreed that it should be black, like they came from factory. I decided to go with Semi-Gloss POR15 and have it sprayed (rather than brushed or similar).

I don't necessarily would have minded leaving it galvanized like on the photo below if it was on a 40-series, but not sure how it would have looked on a 70-series. (Photo below not mine).

Galvanized Frame.jpg

Just in case somebody is interested, here is the link to the company I used for the Galvanizing:

Galvanizing | AZZ

In talking to Jeff (the paint guy) he mentioned that he had a spray-gun that he used for Schultz (spelling?) and he could spray the frame out and also inside the frame rails as much as he could. So I asked him to come and pick it up and have it painted with the Semi-Gloss POR15. I also bought the POR15 Cleaner/Degreaser and the POR15 Metal Prep to etch the galvanized steel and have better chances of the paint sticking to it (rather than seeing it peel a few years down the road).

Here are some photos of the frame painting progress.

The frame actually looks better in person than in the photos.

In the 40 forum, the bezel police are quick to note a flipped bezel... I never thought that I'd have to note a flipped frame! ;)
On serious note, you are doing exactly what I would do if I never had to go to work. That frame is stinking beautiful!! Bravo!

Thank you, Rob!!!!

I'm trying to do this on my spare time so that's why everything takes me forever and a day to do. It will be a while before we see more progress, but it will happen sometime.

Simple solution: Work less, tinker with your Cruiser more. :)
