I was able to assess the damage completely last night. The bumper is bent pretty badly. I might be able bend it back if I have to. The parking side marker light bracket is broken but salvageable if I have to. The Toyota dealership was able to order me a new lens. I was able to bend the bumper bracket back into place. I checked two salvage yards this morning and the local autozone. No luck there. I've looked through the classifieds with no luck. I've decided I am going to get a custom bumper made but I still need the light bracket. So if anyone has one let me know...still pretty angry about the whole situation.

**i was able to find the parts on Ebay. Hopefully they are as advertised and will fit. Supposedly exact replacements. Light bracket:12.99$ plus 10$ shipping. Black front bumper 61.00$ free shipping. Will update soon.

Man that sucks! Sorry to hear it. As Dan said you can usually buy a bar or a complete bumper kit from the aftermarket. In fact, all the rear bumpers up until the 05 model year were considered accessories and came in a kit from TMS.

Try amazon or search car parts.com I've had great luck finding stuff that no where else has on those two sites

I rewired the new corner parking light and installed it tonight. Looks great. The front bumper is scheduled to show up tomorrow. Tuesday I'll take it and the rear bumper to the powder coat shop. Tomorrow I'm going to adjust the valves, which I've never done before so that will be an adventure. Hopefully that will cure the back firing rough warm idle problem I've got. If that doesn't work it's a carb rebuild for me.

Valve adjust should be done with the engine warmed up.

She is a little beauty...

Today was really nice outside so I warmed up jasmine and adjusted the valves. All the rockers were tight by about 1/8 of a turn. Tight valves results in valves not fully closing, loose valves result in valves not fully open. Is that correct? Valves not closing fully would result in rough idle and backfiring? Is that correct? Either way the valves are adjusted properly now and everything is back together. It was easier than I expected and only took about a half hour.

I've got the bumpers back from the powder coaster and installed. I will take some pictures tomorrow. Truck is running great but I have the idle set a little high and the truck still backfires when you shut it off. I guess a carb rebuild is in order...I can't imagine the carb is too different from the aisin on my 40 but if anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it. Work has continued on the land cruiser this week. Check that thread for info. Have a great holiday everyone.

Well there's your problem right there... EGR valve to intake. Cracked all the way around. Currently doing a full carb rebuild. I started a thread in the forum to document. I've already found several issues...broken vacuum lines, plugged vacuum lines, etc. this should be a big positive to truck operations.

I got a piece of metal in my eye yesterday while working on the truck. Today it cost me 500$ to get it removed at the eye doctor. Thank you affordable Heath care act. Good thing I only have one car payment now. See first post. The doc says it probably got into my eyebrow since I had been wearing safety glasses and it started hurting hours later after the work. When I washed my face it got into my eyes. So as a reminder wear safety glasses and make sure you wash your face with your eyes closed immediately following any grinding or metal fab work...that could have been a lot of new parts.

Installed a new fuel filter since I was in there and I had a fellow MUD and ONSC member weld up my EGR downpipe. So a new gasket and that is reinstalled. I love the mud community. The carb is done I'm just waiting on the correct gasket to button it up for reinstallation.

Everything is up and running now. I checked the timing today and adjusted to 8deg BTDC per the FSM. It is idling a little high around 1200 RPM so I'll adjust that tomorrow. But I have a wicked cold engine backfire when I shut the truck off. Sounds like a shotgun going off. I believe the trouble is with the EGR system which is now functional. The carb, timing, and plugs are all, good. Any other ideas? Thanks.

The backfire suggests un-burned fuel. It may be running rich.

I drove the truck into work today allowing it to get good and warmed up. I still had off gas (shifting) backfires and a big one when I turned off the truck. I don't have the FSM in front of me but what would the effects of a bad EGR valve be?
In the last month I have rebuilt and tuned the carb, adjusted valves, and fixed the EGR downpipe. This is an exhaust system backfire so I might have misadjusted an exhaust valve or something is wrong with the EGR system. I have read the cat could cause it but I don't think so since the symptons are recent.
A new exhaust system is probably on the list though after I figure this out since it is pretty old.

I have the engine manual at home for that truck. I can look at it tonight. Hell, you can have it if you want. It's just sitting there taking up space in my tool box. Just send me a PM with your address and I'll send it to you.

Edit: I have both the engine and chassis manual.

Spent a half hour adjusting the idle mixture and speed. I think I still need a new muffler, it sounds a little like rocks inside it, but the back fire is gone. So she is back up and running. Winning.
