1976 FJ40 with Cummins 4BT and Ranger OD (4 Viewers)

Have you thought of putting in 3.73's? You probably have the torque but the preferred rpm of the 4bt is less than 2000 rpm and my fj60 with 3.73's is cruising around 55-65 with 33's if I remember right at 2k. It would also help your MPG's and you might not ever notice it offroad with the low rpm torque of the 4bt..

what are you using for a radiator fan...appeared you dont' have one?

Yea I have enough clearance, i have 2+ inches after the axel is resting on the pass. side bumpstop. The engine is mount very high hence the custom turbo plumbing. All the excitement was shortly lived. Drove it all day yesterday and did a fluid level check when I got home.....radiator is full of engine oil. :mad: Going to pull the oil cooler this week and test, I really hope its nothing major.

That's a bummer but don't despair. A lot of the 4bt's are worked pretty hard and that is why proffit's cruisers goes with remans.. it's common to have cracks in the heads, bad head gaskets, shot turbo's with the thrust bearing in the oil pan, KDP failures etc. What is cool is that it takes a lot of abuse to get it to that point. You've probably read Boot's "Dora/Family haulin'" thread, he had to rebuild his 4bt..

Its a '92 Cummins reman with 62K, turbo it tight, before putting the engine in, I checked the KDP, its been fixed so I'm hoping the cooler just failed. Runs great, no smoke, no external leaks, no water in the oil. I'll be pulling the cooler this week with my fingers crossed.... It just sucks getting this far, driving it for 2 weeks and BAM... dead in the water. Can't wait to figure out how to flush the rad and heater cores. :bang:

I would try some aluminum safe degreaser like the orange/citrus stuff in plain ol' h20 then more water. A lot of degreasers are very caustic and eat aluminum and plastic.. test it first- avoid anything like soap that causes bubbles.
