The panels weren't to bad, just very time consuming, I think I had close to 100+ hours into the rear section of the tub. The bed from Real Steel didn't fit at first nor the wheel wells. Lots of notching to make them fit.

Running and driving really well, the oil cooler was the problem. No more oil loss and clean coolant. Its really hard to keep my foot out of the throttle but the first tank I got 18.8 mpg (city only)

That's pretty good fuel economy considering it has 4:11s. I'd bet that you could get that close to 20 with 3:73s. Have you thought about the Advance Adapters 10% overdrive for the split case? That and the 3:73 gears would really get your RPMs down.

What are you going to do for a spare?

The rig looks really great and I love the videos. I can't wait to get my rig home to the States and do that swap:grinpimp:

Cheers,

Josh

How tall is your truck with the 4" lift? I would LOVE to have a 4BT in mine...

Here are the latest pics, turbo plumbing, intake, emblems and a million misc. items are done. Plated, registered and insured! I took it for a 30 mile drive with the stock wheels and tires on it still. This thing runs great! The overdrive works flawlessly, trans shifts perfect. The engine was a little underpowered for my tastes so I tweaked the injector pump and what a difference. Wheels and tires should be here in about 2-3 weeks.

Two things. First your rig turned out great. watching your build only reinforces in me my serious lack of metal working skills and the need to get them if I want to do any of the other fantasy rebuilds that I have in mind. Second, there is a nice track record of the 4BT in 40s and from what you are reporting it is well worth the swap. The only thing that I have a question about is the highway cruising speed of the 4BT. Now that I'm back from overseas the average speed on the interstate highways that I need to drive the 40 on to get to any trail head is 70-75mph. Go any faster and the troopers pull you over for speeding. Go any slower and they will pull you over for impeding traffic or any other number of nit picks that they can find on a lifted 4 x 4. Can the 4BT cruise in that range at 2k rpms or less with 4:11 gears in the diffs? Is that an unrealistic expectation from that engine? Is that a more realistic expectation from a 6BT assuming that I could find a thread where anyone finished a 6BT build in a 40. Thanks.

The FJ stands about 6' 7", it fits under my 7ft garage door but I haven't tried it with the top on yet. HJ47, I do have the AA overdrive in it already and I'm building a swinging bumper mount for a full sized spare.
The FJ's top speed at 2500 rpm is 66.8 mph. I wouldn't want to go any faster than that anyway on Colorado roads. I'm not going to regear it because it does so well off road.

What gears are you running in the diffs? Thanks.

Love your rig, It really turned out nice. That's what I needed to get me jump started back on mine. One day I would like to try a cummins conversion. I'm a cummins man myself, they are bullet proof.
I believe your stock gears would be 4.11's, not 100% sure though.

Mike

Unless the the 3rd members were swapped, 4.11 indeed. The Ranger OD is a nice addition to help with the low gearing.

Ditto, unless diffs have been swapped stock should be 4.11. As such top speed for you running the 4BT as you have it setup is 66.8 mph at 2500 rpm with 4.11. Ok is the 4BT happy at those revs or is it screaming to be left in peace. Thanks.

4.11's indeed, stock 3rd members. At 66mph the 4BT is on the governor. It doesn't sound that bad reved at 2500rpm. It acually runs the smoothest at that speed. I don't see any need for putting the 3200 rpm spring in, I think that would be asking for trouble. If I need to travel 75 mph somewhere, its going on the trailer.

Dunes trip

Here are some new pics taken at the Oregon Dunes. The FJ did amazing, pulled stuck rigs out all weekend! I only got it stuck once but it wasn't that bad. She ran about 10 degrees warmer at around 200. Can't wait to do it again!
