Photos of Twist Locks and Roof Rack Mounts
I thought I had taken a photo of the new Ign. Cyl. when it arrived but could not find it. Here is a photo of the Twist Locks.
The 2nd photo is of the Roof Rack Mounts / Sandwich Idea (Special Thanks to Peter Gaballa on this one) The Grey strip represents the Soft top, the idea is to use the soft-top as the main ingredient in the sandwich, above and bellow are 7.5 Inch compressed soft surface foam washers, followed by 6 inch Stainless Steel Washer on top and another one at the base of the contraption. The washer in the photo is not stainless steel just yet! (Being made as we speak) Some washers will be bent to the exact curvature of the original soft-top specs, or so I hope

Soft Top Fitting
First fitting for the Egyptian made 43 Soft-Top
Keep in mind Wasef made this according the photos I handed him of the OEM soft-tops in addition to other ideas and Tips. The car had no remains of the old soft-top, nothing to help him out. Still to fit the twist locks and more...Its interesting to brain-storm with such expert craftsmen, we live and learn.

Which set of wheels should I use, I have both sets, 15 & 16. The White one on the rear is the 16, on front is 15
I'm thinking, keep the 15's and get 33x10.5 tires

Still deciding between a rectangular one or an odd looking one that goes with the lines of the car's plan/roof

Each mount will have one big bolt to fasten the rack.

Top looks killer. I think your rack will look best staying close to the classic look. How about a rough draft of the other design I've been wrong before

Sorry I missed your writing a month ago.
Anyway, you asked about which wheels and tires to use:
My FJ43 came from the KSA with 16-inch split-rim wheels and 9.00 balloon sand tires. I believe we would call these "floatation tires." These were probably the best choice for their intended use on the dunes and harder sand surfaces.
I have since replaced them with Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62 single-piece 16-inch steel wheels and 33-inch Mud Terrain tires. I de-chromed the wheels and powder-coated them in a blackish, slightly metallic color. I like the new look, the slight increase in height, they fit nicely within the wheel wells, and they are appropriate for my use on paved roads, occasional dirt roads, and in the snow I get during winter.
I don't believe you get much rain or mud, so Mud tires are probably not for you. Standard street tires are probably recommended, unless if you will be driving on sand a lot, you might prefer the 9.00 sand tires--just not much tire tread for paved roads, and/or wet weather, though. They also look like they might puncture more easily on sharp rocks if that's in your plans.
They are not used here in America, as our sand is quite different from yours--large grain particles. I have seen our "sand tires" with large paddle treads on them--much like on the rear of typical farming tractors--not suitable for pavement or other hard driving surfaces.
And by the way, I, too, hope you're doing okay with the political changes from yesterday. Keep safe.

Thank you Bear, Ro83rt and Saddam. Its been a while...4 years ..time to put some sand under those wheels..
Currently the roof rack mounts are sticking out of the soft-top and ready to be used, thanks to Peter Gaballa owner of the faithful 45, a 70 & 60.

Peter drew the idea on paper, Taher El Hadidi made the metal works and spanner collars, Osta Wassef made the soft-top and complete upholstery for the 43, then personally had the honors of sealing the sandwich. Let the trial and error begin.
Now to quickly design the roof rack and make sure no Cats sleep on my soft top....help!!
Tyres- Im going for zero offset 16 inch rims. Should I go for 235x85 R16 or 7.50 R16 ?? Your opinions please...

Thanks Johnny, this carb has been sitting on the shelf of the good trusty hole the wall as you boys call, in down town Cairo which only sells TLC parts for the past 3 years...a few days ago I bought it and made my 2F happy. Currently changing clutch master cylinders.

In a few hours the FJ43 will drive on gravel and sand...something she has not done in years...it the maiden voyage, a day trip with the Toyota Landcruiser Club of Egypt. Basically any 4x4 Toyota is welcome

Thank you Peter Gaballa, I will forever be greatful. We took our time and made a paractical roof-rack.
It didnt cost much besides the raw materials. But I did stupidly hurt myself and got 9 stitches on my finger. 1 down, 19 to go.
Small holes on the rail supports now have 13mm Rivet Nuts, which will be useful for additions.
We used marine ply wood which should last through North African (Global Warming conditions)
Fitting and re-fitting.. Peter not liking the width... a bit too wide??

Now I need longer bolts to fix the roof rack its 6 mounts, we got thick rubber cushions on the mounts.. but she looks ok and almost ready to stack up
Will be facing the problem of the wind tunnel over my head while driving, but plan is to have a fabricated wind deflector/housing for a good LED bar. The never ending build...
