Thanks for sharing your build, it's really great to see the old school body work going on. I am deeply envious of your rig, a LHD 43! My dream cruiser.

Keep us posted!

This Shop is in Down Town Cairo, and has been famous all over N/E Africa!! I met a Sudanese buying parts for his FJ40 in Khartoum, and once met some Libyans from the Army, buying parts for there desert patrol units. Ibrahim Tawfik the owner of the shop has been supplying the market for the past 30 years, his son Amir is daily in shop, and all you have to do is give him your chassis number and he will give you all part numbers needed, so even if he doesnt have the part on the shelf he can simply order it. I bought quite a few original Toyota parts for my 43 from here, some were mechanical bits that I was astonished to find brand new!!

Wow, that parts shop is every Landcruiser freaks dream! This is going to be an epic build, thanks for sharing....:)

In Search of Parts!!

During my summer trip to the North Coast, I got a chance to pass by Ahmed Batata in El Amreia. He has been supplying Northern Egypt with Toyota Landcruiser parts. He is famous among both Smugglers & Desert Patrol units, I even wonder if they met at Batata:D

I noticed he no longer has parts for 40's, lots of parts for 60's, 70's & 80's

I went in search of a indicator/lights arm and and plastic housing, and only got the housing, as the arms where broken. I only found one scrap 40 in parts, fenders, front, innerfenders, tank, seats, doors and hood. While outside was parked this 84' FJ45 cabin, the interior was in really good condition and the guy only wanted to sell it as whole. It had the 2F and 4 on floor. Sorry only one photo.

While another yellow pre 74 FJ45 was parked, in bad state and looks like it belongs to a Company in Amreya.

Enjoy Batata's parts...

Very interesting. Those old school restoration tactics are what we would consider "shade tree" over here but I can see there is a lot to be learned from them. As another member said, they are true craftsman. The backdrop of this story is so interesting as is the progress and results we are seeing. Great build. Very cool.

Elvis is about to leave the building

Finally after just over 7 weeks the 43 has left El Yassergi's Body Shop.

It was the first day after a long holiday which comes after the month of Ramadan known as "Eid El Fetr" so most of the cars were stacked in the workshop.

On on side of the building was a Nissan Pick-Up, 128 Fiat, 131 Fiat, 71 Impala, 91 Lancia Delta and my 43

Elvis has left the building

We loaded the car on a platform truck as I dont want to risk driving it with a 3 year old expired license and file full of of the cars documents just to explain that I have bought the car, but since it has been parked for many years it was in no state to go an renew the license and therefore it had to be rebuilt..etc.. So we loaded it and drove off, me in the BJ40 following the flatbed

Sorry about the plastic covering the car in the photos, I just didnt want to take it off yet :hhmm:

Private Garage

After whizzing through the busy streets of Cairo we finally reached our destination, a private garage belonging to a good friend in which all the electrics will be rebuilt by an old school electrician.

Tarek the electrician is currently in the Western Desert with a well known Sheikh who has a hunting obsession. As these days is the season for several kinds of birds migrating from the cold in Europe. In a weeks time Tarek will be back, he has been there for over 20 days.

Give us a break Shiekh & release Tarek!!

Wonderful pictures !

Looks great, can't wait to see some finished pics. I bet it's nice to have landcruiser parts so available. Are Toyota landcruiser FJ40, FJ43, and FJ45's abundant in Egypt?

40s in Egypt

Are Toyota landcruiser FJ40, FJ43, and FJ45's abundant in Egypt?

Mike

43s are the rarest, but the 40 and 45 are mostly available around the desert regions, in Sinai the Bedouins love them, also in the Northern Parts, on the Medd. 45's are seriously Abundant in Baharia Oasis, Mersa Matruh & Siwa Oasis as all agricultural lands there need 4x4 work horses.

In Cairo, I know of about 6 40's, 3 45's and 2 43's one of them is mine.

There are also a couple of 43's in Baharia Oasis, one of them Belongs to Mohamed Sebeka, by far the Best Toyota Landcruiser Mechanic in Egypt!!! Sebeka has 1974 43 with a hard-top conversion. Original F and 3 gears on the floor.

I wish we could find them around here like that, and in that good of shape. Around here, if you find them sitting like that, they are rusted to the ground.

Troopy in Egypt

This white 84' Troopy has been parked for the past 15 years on the street. It has the original Japanese Dunlop tires, original AC and power steering. I had plans on buying it but the owner wanted alot for it in that state!!
