"Once on my way to the body shop I saw this original looking 40 driving by and luckily I had my camera. I even stopped the guy and introduced myself. It has the original F and 3 gears. He has owned it for the past 12 years and will not sell."

I suppose he wouldn't have appreciated hearing that his bezel is upside down, whether or not he heard it in Masri.

Hey look the man in the street he saying, Wow! look at that cool FJ40, wish I had one.:D

Roll Cage Issues

Electrics are currently being rebuilt. Tarek the electrician is back, and Im very happy with his clean work so far. Melting Tin, shrink sleeves, proper dust and water sealing...etc.

I am also designing a roll cage these days, and was wondering about the placings of the mounts. I was thinking of going through the tub in the rear and mounting on the chassis and might even consider doing the same for the mid and front mounts.

I will still research going through the body and the effects of a cage that is too stiff. Putting in mind I plan on loading the roof rack with max. 300 KG plus the weight of roof rack itself.

How much weight do you think the Tub can handle in a small area, say with a 5x5 inch plate on the mounts?:hhmm:
That is if I plan on mounting on the Tub.

I plan on keeping the original soft top with its bows. Will also make my own roof rack pretty close in looks and ideas with the ARB. I will have my roof rack mounts going through the soft top, using a couple of big washers, rubber seals and nut on each of the 6 RR mounts we seal the soft top again. Then on top of that we bolt on the roof rack. Still thinking of better solutions to make things easier if I want to get her naked :)
I will be putting up the design soon.

Give me your opinions, knowledge and ideas. Please :wrench:

Tarek and his magical hands

The electrics are undergoing a total rebuild. Tarek is giving my 43 just what it needs. We dont get alot of rain but we have loads of dust and sand, not to mention the shaking :bounce:

I took the original signal lights off the BJ just cuz they were the original Japanese ones. The have the metal base (mount) which isnt found in any of the after-market, besides it will take alot more shaking and bouncing to bother those Jap ones.
The BJ now has the Taiwanese signals, good for you BJ :p

I sprayed the mounts too

Garage Change + Vinyl Sheets :)

As you may have noticed, the location (Garage) has changed. I owe the Barakats family in Cairo alot. Sherif, Sami & Tarek Barakat are true friends, dive buddies, desert dwellers and we share many childhood memories. The 43 is in Barakats garage in Maadi, Cairo at them moment and for the past 3 weeks. Its getting all the electrics done there by tarek's currently wounded hands, something fell on his finger. Get well soon T.

I would also like to thank the Barakats for the intiative, and all those who were on the last New Year's Desert Trip. They got me the transperant vinyl sheets I need for the soft-top windows. Tarek Barakat ordered it to his house in the UK and while Sami his twin brother was visiting, he picked it up from London and flew it back with him to Cairo. Thank you guys and girls. I'm very happy with my new present :bounce: :steer:

Nahhas & Co. ( For All kinds of rubbers)

Lots holes on my 43 needed plugs. A variety of diameters with sometime just 1 mm in difference between some!

I asked around and found this very interesting shop and thought you guys should see it.
The Nahhas Brothers have been in the rubber field for the past 40 years. The extremely charismatic brothers have loads of stories and only deal in American, British, French, German & Japanese rubbers!! They have all kinds of rubbers. Hoses, belts, plugs, shock cushions and more...except weather strips

I will be recommending this shop to many friends.

EOR, there is a thread started around the beginning of this year by cruiser stuff about roof racks that you should look at. Lots of ideas and comments on trying to use a rack with a soft top.

Biscuit on the board recently had a prototype rollcage made that was supposed to mimic the lines of the soft top bows, which should facilitate a later rack installation.

That said, I remain concerned about the method you suggest of incorporating transfer points in the canvas top to secure rack to cage. I have run the factory softtop on my 40 for a number of years now, and find that the bows and canvas have enough movement in them that I think they would quickly deteriorate if anything else were attached directly to them.

I think I would much prefer the exo-mount ideas explored in the roof rack thread that keep the rack completely independent of the soft top.

Very nice attention to detail on the Electrics!!

I hope you and your Land Cruiser are well during these tough times in Egypt. Stay safe and I look forward to seeing more updates!

Thanks Oman, Egypt is going through some rough times, but its for a brighter future for everyone.

Car is safe though no progress. Should begin building the roll cage asap.
