This summer while parked in the sun with a full tank of fuel, gas would literally run out the filler neck, down the fender and onto the ground.

I found a check valve by the fuel separator that let's air in, but not out. I can't find anyway for the tank to vent out, when the fuel expands. What am I missing?

Someone will chime in with details but sounds like your charcoal canister is plugged.

So mine did that too. I ended up pulling the hose from the charcoal can and just sticking it into an unused port on the breather to keep it from smelling. I also put a new gas cap on it.

Haven't had an issue in over 2 years

Yes, the canister is in the engine comp., but I believe there is a one way valve in the vent line that can act up. I'm not sure since I'm running my own fuel lines, canister, etc. Nothing stock anymore. I'd get a vented cap, too.

The stock charc can is on the passenger side under the hood, low on the firewall. You can see the line that comes up from the tank along the frame. Pull that hose from the can and for the temporary just let it vent into the engine. If that fixes your problem, you can route it into the breather to circumvent the smell. The line doesn't need positive vacuum it's just pressure relief

Gas down the side of your Pig is no fun!

That check valve you found is supposed to let positive pressure vent out of the vapor separator (black thing w/ 4 vertical tubes), but it is not supposed to let air back into the tank if the tank develops a negative pressure (think a warm tank of fuel cooling off at night). Your gas cap is supposed to enable the tank to draw air in, but not let pressure out.

You could start by checking the lines running in and out of the vapor separator. There should be 4 lines venting the tank running to the separator. If you can slide those loose from the separator, you can remove the gas cap and then run some low-pressure compressed air into each line and make sure the tank can vent into the separator. You should be able to hear the air escaping up through the fuel inlet.

If all is good there, you can "check" the check valve (ha ha). Then you can try pushing some low pressure air up through the line to the charcoal canister. Listen for the air up at the charcoal can.

Obviously, any obstructions need to be dealt with.

My check valve was cracked, and let fuel vapors into the passenger compartment :vomit:

Let us know what you find!

The check valve on mine will not let air out of the tank (positive pressure), but will let air into the tank (negative pressure). Do I need to just turn the check valve around?

That sounds like a good place to start! Are all the lines clear?

Poor little Pig! That sounds rough on the tank and on the cap!

Pablo, is that check valve available to purchase. I'd just put a new one on if I was working the problem.

Looks like City Racer has it, but his site is down for the holidays.
I just threw a barbed fitting in mine, I wasn’t concerned about which way the breathing happened...
