"I also have a 1977 2f motor in my truck ,with the fuel injection, it should be able to pull a litter easier."

Have you had a compression test done on the ol' 2f?

If it has low compression or low compression on some cylinders......

Efi isn't going to add any additional power.

Not too sure adding efi will add extra torque or hp to a otherwise well tuned 2f.

You would be amazed how well a 2f w good compression and a new oem carb runs.

I don't know what's up with your tranny, but if you decide to use a Land Cruiser 4 speed (my reccomendation), I've got one that works perfectly that I will GIVE you. It came out of my 76 4-5 years ago when my SM420 went in and has been stored inside since then. If you use it, I would still reccomend that you rebuild it just so everything is like new. Mudrak has the rebuild kits and others likely do as well.
/QUOTE]

x3 run a 4speed/3speed xfer

with 33's this is a all around great combo!!!!

i did an compression test on the engine when rachel stopped by my place to pick up the hard top. checked out fine.

i don't think you're gonna get noticeably more power from the efi, but you will notice a difference when changing naltitude and while wheeling.

"I have planned on doing it this way for some time now"

Keep in mind that your cruiser is a dynamic vehicle.

It will change as you do........

"*sigh* this whole build ahs been VERY stressful"

Don't get discouraged

Until I was finished with my restoration, I didn't enjoy some of the restoration headaches my 40 presented. (as if it is EVER finished)

The advice offered by myself and other mudders is to help you get down the road in your 40.

If it were easy, everybody would be driving a perfect fj40 and they wouldn't be anything special.

haha true true to all the comments!

I am pretty set on the conversions i have planned out. I feel for the way i drive and everything as a dd, the h55f cuts the cake, so does the toyota efi. ANd i have done my research for the past two years i have had this truck and i am definalty sure what i want to do with it. I feel these are the best conversions for me.

yes a compression test was done on the engine. It was in great condition says george haha. that was a real help. All i am going to do with the motor is have anything adjusted like the vavles and all the seals replaced , and paint it because it basically runs like new the way it is already. evidentally ( jsut for kicks) kevin nista had to fill up the motor with 4 quarts of oil when i brought it in to the shop. Before that i had never smelled any burning oil or felt like the engine was running rough or anything. A few months before this in the summer time when it was almost 100 degrees i drove the cruiser around all day literally and no problems before. who knows. all i have to say is i wonder how long it was running low on oil like that because that thing is built like a tank to take that kind of abuse... I haven't neglected it but we have just sold our house adn a whole bunch of other things going on and i hadn't even driven it enough to need an oil change, so i didn't know it was low on oil at the time. whatever, its fine now. Just thought you might get a kick out of how tough these things really are.

thanks for all the encouragement everyone. I truely appreciate it. It really helps the motivation more than you know!

Well then, I guess you had better change your sig line!

In addition to your dreams and your Cruiser, you have US! :grinpimp:

bad, bad rachel! maybe i should try to find you a copy of "automotive knowledge 101"?! just kidding.
anyways, with an older vehicle like that or really any vehicle, it's a good idea to get in the habbit of checking the oil everytime you get gas. you have to sit there and wait for the pump anyways so you might as well spend the time in a constructive way. running 4 quarts low can and will do some serious harm eventually. it's also a good idea to look at the fluid levels in the radiator overflow, the brake and clutch reservoirs. doing so will help avoid possible problems down the road for obvious reasons.

well, since you seem to have your heart and mind set on exactly the conversion you've been talking about i guess we should really try to help you figure some of this stuff out, instead of trying to steer you in other directions. gary (mudrak) has said this many times and it's true :"there are lots of different ways to build a land cruiser and they're all right". and that's very true. some shops and individuals don't share that view but it's up to the owner to know what they want, isn't it?! all this is to be within reason of course. to each their own.

so what do you still need to figure out?
i sent you a pm with a lead to some local split cases so hopefully that'll ork out for you. the next big concern i have is the 3FE conversion. did you find a write-up on this? afaik, the 3FE head is shaped a lot differently than the F or 2F head so bolting this stuff up might not be all that easy. the wiring concerns me as well. i don't think it's gonna be impossible by any stretch but it might not be as easy as just bolting things on.

alright, enough for now. got any update pics?:)

Maybe Georg is right, but I'm going to encourage you to be conservative 1 more time.....

There is only 1 condition under which you should change your running 2f and that is for a complete running 3FE. That solves all the problems. The 3F head/2F block hybrid thing is OK for sommeone who wants to continually tinker with the system, but for you a complete motor would have many advantages. and would turn the wiring problems into a straight forward exercise. The 3FE has 155 HP so that's up 20% from where you are, plus all the advantages of EFI.

One last time-the 4 speed tranny is a simpler and better choice for a 40 (just my opinion living with Land Cruisers for years and driving an H55f every day).

There is nothing to prevent you from doing these projects one at a time,,either. Dial in your saginaw now, 3FE in a few months when all the parts come together for you, and then the H55 in a year when you have the parts and are willing to lengthen the wheelbase to make it fit better. It's much easier to digest a bit at a time, and as others have stated, it's never really done.

I hope whatever you do turns out great-keep the progress reports coming. It should be done in a week and a half, right?:D

My cruiser was in the same spot 4 for 10 months...........

It all started when I tried to bleed the brakes.

Seeing it motionless drove me "cruiser crazy"

i know what that feels like. I had it in my garage just for 4 months during the summer. then decided to do all the above to it. I know the cruiser crazy feeling. You just wanna hop in it and drive it!

Up dates on the build Okie.

yes i know. haha anyways i guess it was mission impossible. The painter also said he couldn't get to the truck untill the second part in january. i have TONS of pics but where i am staying right now, th e-net is sloooww, i will post up soon. its BEAUTIFUL so far.

i have the rolling chasis....:D  :D

does that mean you got the frame powder coated before all the install/mock-up work was finished?!

Where does a girl learn so much about engines and 4X4s in general?

My little sister can't tell a lip gloss from a gas cap! That's pretty cool! She does know alot about lipgloss though..........
