Where is the vacuum advance line connected? Pic of your carb would help.

Vacuum advance is bottom black hose in first pic. Top black hose is to vac gauge.

I'm not at all sure, but you may wish to move the source of your vacuum gauge to your intake manifold. One of these helps.

Thanks!
I tapped from the transfer case vacuum fitting I made and yeah it’s very different. I tried letting it idle as best I could but all in all I’m around 15 inches. I waiting for that before I started to do any adjustments on the carb.

I made a quick fitting on the lathe to hook up the vacuum gauge.
I’m a bit overwhelmed now thinking about how to tune this. Still isn’t idling, I guess I need to adjust screw just to get it to idle then proceed with adjusting the mixture. Although I’ve seen some recommend advancing timing in that routine as well. I guess I have homework to do.
It also seems to run hot; not sure what to think about that yet

You may want to start with the easiest and work up to the more difficult. I'd start with adjusting the timing. If you can get her to run for long enough, try moving the distributor in order to see if it improves. Also make sure she is firing on all cylinders. Check each plug wire. You will get her purring again.

Yea, you need manifold vacuum, try using the brake booster line. It's not like your driving it. Set timing, then see if you can adjust the carb a bit to keep it running. If it seems ok, get it hot you might want revist adjusting the valves. Then try to dial it in. It pulls highest vacuum at idle. When rev'd the butterflies open you'll have less vacuum. Fyi.

You're just talking about connection for vacuum guage, correct? His vac advance distributor is correctly connected to ported vacuum on carb.

Yes, remove the booster vacuum lines and plug the gauge in. It should be manifold vacuum, and he's not driving it. For Tuning porpoises only. Idk what lines go where. He needs to blk off any open ports. I think it needs vacuum disconnected and plugged to set timing.

Thanks yeah I think I sorted out manifold vacuum for my gauge.
I’ll keep an eye on the vacuum level and see if it follows.

Thanks for all the replies-
When initially set timing to the BB I did disconnect the advance.
I haven’t done much else yet to tune. As far as idle I should probably start with just the screw and see if it’ll set nicely so I can play with the advance and mixture.
For temp I need to make sure my gauge is working right. I may hook up a secondary gauge to double check it

Got it idling so I can at least check things out now.
I watch the temp go all the way to the 3rd bar and shut it down. Temp gauge goes all the way to hot when I shut it off.
I got my thermocouple and the thermostat housing is reading 140–150 before I shot the video.
I started it back up and measured again (video) and the temp gauge was staying at full hot.
Is the thermostat housing a reliable standard?

Infrared thermo doesn't lie. Looks like your fuel guage is not working either? Could just be a wiring glitch with guages.

I have a '69 with an early 70's carb, vacuum advance, etc. Let me know if you want to compare anything.

Correct- I didn’t put a lot of gas in but enough to get a reading.
I realized too I could read the temp sender as well. That was a little higher at 170 F.
I’m going to track down what’s going on at the dash.
