Installing a front windshield and aftermarket gasket from CCOT. I started off having my insurance Handel the replacement. After multiple companies said they couldn’t do it my insurance said they would reimburse me if I did it.
So I took my front windshield to a local glass company. The only one I could find and they had it cut same day! $175.00 I started, now I watched a few videos and decided it was basically the same concept as installing windows in my 60 which I have done multiple times. Now the new window is 1mm thinner and the top right, top left and bottom right are just a hair shy narrower than on the old window. But the sides, top and bottom are same and smooth. Found this out today didn’t think to measure it when I got it back.
Now I started installing the gasket on a hot day after I left it out and right off noticed it was completely round and not molded AT ALL in the corners. After about an 1hr I almost threw the glass in the road. I could not even get the gasket to stay on the glass. So my wife comes out to help after 30 min and half a roll of painters tape later the gasket is on. Then we put the window in bottom first, with light pressure and pulling the string the gasket seats across the bottom. Working up the side with windex pulling the string. Then the corner just wants to roll and spit the glass out. Geot the bottom corner on and start up the side. But I can still see light between the gasket and pinch weld. Get half way up the side and gasket pops out of the gasket and is half in the window and half out. So frustrated I ripped the window out and almost the it in the road.
Took a break and had a drink went to bed got up worked some, watched videos and read installs and thought ok same s*** as I thought yesterday. Got my wife back out there same thing 30min with the gasket then in with the bottom first. Got both lower corners in and gasket comes off. My wife jumps down kicks the kids toys about 30’ and walks inside! She is most likely listing it for sale for $10. W. T. F. I have never not finished a project in my life. But this windshield is kicking my ASS!
