Installing a front windshield and aftermarket gasket from CCOT. I started off having my insurance Handel the replacement. After multiple companies said they couldn’t do it my insurance said they would reimburse me if I did it.

So I took my front windshield to a local glass company. The only one I could find and they had it cut same day! $175.00 I started, now I watched a few videos and decided it was basically the same concept as installing windows in my 60 which I have done multiple times. Now the new window is 1mm thinner and the top right, top left and bottom right are just a hair shy narrower than on the old window. But the sides, top and bottom are same and smooth. Found this out today didn’t think to measure it when I got it back.

Now I started installing the gasket on a hot day after I left it out and right off noticed it was completely round and not molded AT ALL in the corners. After about an 1hr I almost threw the glass in the road. I could not even get the gasket to stay on the glass. So my wife comes out to help after 30 min and half a roll of painters tape later the gasket is on. Then we put the window in bottom first, with light pressure and pulling the string the gasket seats across the bottom. Working up the side with windex pulling the string. Then the corner just wants to roll and spit the glass out. Geot the bottom corner on and start up the side. But I can still see light between the gasket and pinch weld. Get half way up the side and gasket pops out of the gasket and is half in the window and half out. So frustrated I ripped the window out and almost the it in the road.

Took a break and had a drink went to bed got up worked some, watched videos and read installs and thought ok same s*** as I thought yesterday. Got my wife back out there same thing 30min with the gasket then in with the bottom first. Got both lower corners in and gasket comes off. My wife jumps down kicks the kids toys about 30’ and walks inside! She is most likely listing it for sale for $10. W. T. F. I have never not finished a project in my life. But this windshield is kicking my ASS!

😂😂 Great times right there! I remember cursing quite a bit doing mine, and i even think i came back at it next eve type thing too. but it went. I did mine solo in the living room while my wife slept to save my marriage. Frame off truck seemed easier. I also bought the glass from Cruiser Corps. It fits perfect.
Keep at it, you got this 🤙

I had my wife help me do the rear windows and I feel your pain. By the forth window we had it figured out.
Unfortunately I don’t have any tips for the front window. Good luck!

I used canned glass cleaner (foams up when sprayed).
I sprayed that on the edge of the rubber with the rope and on the windshield frame and then it doesn't bind and pull the rubber, smoother that way.
I would say it is easier out on a table or saw horses.

Similar experience—finally took it to a auto glass shop and paid the price. They cursed and were swearing for a bit, which made me feel better about spending the money.

The ended up cutting the gasket at the bottom to make it work. Then a bit of black gasket sealer - never leaked.

I’m wondering if there is any difference between OEM gasket and Aftermarket. I feel this gasket should not fall off the glass as easy as it does.

On my ‘63 (45) I put the cityracer gasket around the frame first then worked the glass into it using thin plastic (! - not metal!) scrappers( in various sizes) from the outside in. I too couldn’t keep the seal on the glass to use the rope trick, seems like it‘s too big for the older windows (?). Started around the bottom and worked upwards and around. Wife on one side, me the other, each holding the glass in place with one hand and using the other to tool the glass into the channel. Both of us being right handed added a bit of challenge 😂. Used masking tape to help keep the seal somewhat in place and removed it as we went along. And soap in spray bottle for lubrication. Afterwards sitting in the sun helped set the corners.

Alright back on the road windshield installed! I tossed the gasket from CCOT and used a universal gasket it fit great! I duck taped the window in place with the gasket installed. Then I soaped it up and set it in and used the string method to rope it in. I was able to install the window by myself using this method you just have to be careful. The window wants to ride up as you come around the bottom corners. Keep your hand thru the inside on top of the glass pushing down. Until you’re half way up the sides. I used a rubber mallet to wrap the string around. 1/8” para cord from harbor freight did not break and worked nice.
