It really does matter what you're going to do with it. It's not worth any more and probably less than a similar shape later model 40. ;)

Poke around with it, and run as is: Price is OK.

Return to original: Not enough oriiginal left, overpriced.

Modify into an awesome trail rig: Your buying a tub and frame everything else will eventually be swapped out, what's a tub and frame worth to you?

Nobody has jumped at my early soft top alternatiive. :meh: I've done two this way, if you score the top cheap it keeps you dry.

Jim.

Just got around to reading your Early Soft Top Alternative thread. You proved it can be done. And to think I sold the Kayline top that came with my 81 !

I recently found this bench seat out of a 78 Euro Spec 40. I know the mounting frame is different but the covers are darn nice!

Would it be a bear to make it work in the '62?

That is a cool seat...I was considering a local '78 last year, and this is the seat I was looking for as I want a bench up front, and not buckets...love that seat :frown:

Spoke to soon. Seller sold it out from under me : (

However I did get a good lead on a correct bench seat from a fellow mudder!

Simple, OEM seat belts. Take a look in the fender well for the mounting bracket. Those were great for causing the front of the fender well to rust out.

"I see," said the blind man. : )

Very cool that you still have them...mine are all missing, and I missed the last couple I saw for sale.

was this a mid-62 because on all three of mine haven't had them nor the any evidence of them being there, very interesting:beer:

Can you post the vin. These old eye can't quite make it out. I can do a little research. I have a 63 titled FJ40 hard top but it has a 62 production date and the seat belts threaded holes are there. Does it have a ashtray and defrost vents in the lower part of the windshield?

Not sure when they started, but I've these in some of the old pics I have found, and after some feed back from Living In The Past. Seems that the red seat belts switch clips after '65. I'll have to see if I can find those old pics...or if someone else who knows more can chime in.

How do I tell the month?

Not 100% accurate, but we know that the vin numbers known on the SOR chart start with 22692 on Jan 1964, and that a rough average of 440 rigs per month were produced, so take this 22692, subtract yours 16626 (is it 16626 ?) and you have roughly 14 months, so that would put it around a fall '62 production...that is if I read the vin correctly, as I'll say like Living In The Past... the picture of the vin plate is a little hard to read. Anyways, does this make any sense??

3rd picture on post #7 shows no ashtray.

It also has a later windshield:frown: I guessing this is going to have a higher VIN than JP's 3 62s and a lower number than mine. I also have the 62 tub that the frame was sold to be use for a Icon. But it had a old insurance card in the glove box so I know the VIN but it was a early 62 no ashtray, defrost vents or factory seat belts.

I will do a little research this weekend. I have technical bulletins showing the starting frame number for the ashtray and the defrost vents for both FJ40s and FJ45s. Don't remember seeing one mentioning the seat belts which must have started just a little earlier. I will be able to tell you if your original windshield had defrost vents. Also will post up the VIN from my early 63.

This is a rear "jump" seat that came with my rig. I removed the covers and foam and it is unfortunately rusted badly.

I was perusing www.SOR.com and they dont list my mystery jump seat.

They do list a rear bench seat for FJ25 up to 1961. SOR sells a cover for this rear seat and Im wondering if it will fit mine.

I called and was given some rough dimensions of 39" x 16".

Im waiting to get home and measure mine and see if they are close. Maybe I'd be better off doing a custom cover.

Anyways, I will let you know what I find out...

Not sure what the mystery is that is a 61 FJ40 rear jump seat. I have a couple of sets of these. Same as the FJ25 only the arm rests are lower like the later FJ40 with the single arm. The FJ25 arm rests are as high as the back of the seat. I would have to check but I think the cover was the same size until the 72 model that tapered on the front of the bottom cushion. I know all SOR are grey but red would be the correct color. Destin used red ones made by Shane. I would like a set but he doesn't make the matching pre 64 front seat covers.
