Alright this is just for fun, and I'm not putting this to an official vote necessarily but figured everybody might enjoy some visuals. i'm visiting my sister up in Eagle, CO (who is a graphic designer) for a couple days so we pulled up one of the FJ28L images and started playing with colors. I decided I want it to be a blue or a green, I'm leaning towards a green simply because my FJ45LV is already capri blue, but that probably shouldn't sway me one way or another.

Colors in the collages are (clockwise from upper left) spring green, nebula green, cadet blue, and horizontal blue. One is obviously a solid color collage, other is two-tone with cygnus white in the insets.

Personally was surprised to like the solid colors better than two-tone for the most part. The two-tone that I liked the best was spring green. The solid color I liked the best is nebula. These were photoshopped and the colors were "grabbed" from the Toyota swatches, but keep in mind these are "cartoon" recreations so the depth/shadowing/tone does look a little different than what all of us are used to. So don't get too hung up on how "correct" the color is at this stage.

I think the interior would look great as a camel color. Gifu didn't use the same interior colors in their interiors, so I don't have to do exactly what the 25's and 40s had. Though if I wanted to match the 45LV it would have to be gray. Decisions for another day

I tried the Heath gray which looked pretty good as a two tone. It’s going to be a tough choice! Nebula has always been my favorite FJ color...

Are the winkers you have 12v or 6v?

Are the actuated by a toggle lever and cable like that on a bike brake ... or... actuated electric motor?

And... once actuated do they blink?

We do know of yours ... that was the one pictures earlier in this thread correct?

Could be beneficial for detailed pictures of missing or damaged parts that are on his

And.... were you able to source anything else that was close to original that you picked up aftermarket?

x2 welcome Günter! I’ve spent a lot of time looking at your beautiful 28L, would love to see and hear more of it and your restoration! I believe @Land Cruiser Junky has more photos of his restoration too I just found out yesterday. I believe he’s going to try to send them to me, maybe I can upload into an album with a shareable link for referencing

interesting links for the Apollo’s! Looks like one of them actually has a column mounted switch? There’s something so weird and funky about having a dash Mounted cable operated set that makes me want to find that type. From what I can tell shipping to US isn’t offered, but I’m sure there’s a solution to that. going back to the colors, the fj28 has unique panels so i think to go single color does a disservice to those panlels. normally, i like lighter and brighter colors on cruisers but with a light panel, i think a darker color might work well. what do darker greens and blues look like?

I would like to keep the fuel filter bracket with the fenders if i can BUT I’m pretty sure I have a spare filter bracket somewhere. Happy to pass Gene’s generosity on and send it to you soon as I find it!

I'm late to the party as well, actually I'm still not there, but congrats on scoring a relatively unmolested rig.

Most everyone has answered already, but just to chime in:

Bib Lights: Not sure if those are original or not but the early lights were pointy. Unless they have a Stanley or Koito number on them I'd say just replace with the later bib light which would be correct for 1960 anyhow. If your over the top on correctness you may need to address the SAE67 on the lens.

Trans hump: Someone has said it, the transfer shifter would normally be on the left side for LHD, but could also been original on the right as these started as a cowl/chassis and they may have went with the simpler version. If the hump is the same as a 25, I may be able to help you out with that and everything to swap it to the left side.

Suspension: Not original anyhow so don't worry about what's on there. Not sure if the rear spring is the same as a 25, it could be more like a 45. But the fronts are the same as a 40. If it has the right stance maybe don't mess with it otherwise you'll be searching for original springs to rearch.................... and while I attempt to type this John just described the differences.......

Turn signal switch: The switch is built like a tank........the stalk like a repurposed twig. Clamps on and wires like an aftermarket so you can run a signal-stat or the like until you find an original to replace it.

Fenders: Didn't read the thread, but you should have four bolt fenders. If not you can convert them to three, there are plenty of pictures around to give you the detail.

License Lamp: That lamp has all the detail of an early Koito light. check for numbers inside, but if nothing else it's period correct and may have been original. Brake lights were one of those market/year variations. Some sported a single brake light and the other lamps were not combination. Others had combination lamps of some sort. Having semaphores originally, your wiring may be a little different (but probably not original anyhow).

It's got good bones........just don't stress on getting all the pieces overnight......it'll take years. And remember there may not be total conclusion/agreement on originality. Toyota was a little erratic in the early years regarding market, production changes, documentation, photos, illustrations etc.

Purely for curiosity's sake (it's that cat hunting thing) have your sister make up a pic that has the insert panels and the roof a dark color (e.g. nebula green) and the rest of the body cygnus white. Just for kicks. Unless she's really busy.

Thought about a scheme more like your lv? The one illustration of the 2 door seems to show that type of scheme.....or maybe skip the white and go with color on color or maybe even a grey with a darker color.
