I'm in for one!

Well, before I jump in, I would want to see how this performs in extended 110 deg, slow speed/idle environment.

Suggest viewing 4xoverland 70 series overheat video (can't remember which one). They did a slight front license plate mounting mod. Hardly discernible. Sent the cooling system into a fit.

Stock airflow usually highly engineered to provide adequate cooling in all scenarios.

Don't mean to rain on any parades......just the engineer in me:bang:

Also interested - might be straightforward enough to calculate the open flow volume of the OEM grill (happy to measure my 98 LC if you need it) and compare to the new one? If close then I'm happy, if 50% then, well...

It will be pretty easy to test where I live in the upcoming months, although we have no humidity. And, like I said last year I drove through high temps with no issues. Good thoughts here though, i'm sure we could perform some pretty convincing tests once its warm.

Very nice project good work. Interested in purchasing when complete. Curious as to if it will come painted, powder coated or raw. Rust and salt spray are a concern here in the salt belt. Factory mounting bolts I assume?

If I do sell them, I was planning to ship them bare, so that there isn't coating damage from shipping. I can paint the grill panel to color match the car though. It is a two piece grill so two tone is an option. Not using factory mount points. The original grill has a top screw location thats on the headlights, and that place breaks with the light weight factory grill (at least mine did), so I am using another location that is an existing bolt in front of the radiator. I have designed it so that there will be the least amount of long seams (where rust can happen) There are drain areas and many small weld points so that powder coating can get all around the weld. I invested much thought into the rust issue, but it will not be foolproof.

I would be in for a bare one. Damage to the coating during the shipping process is far too common nowadays so I think it would be easy to paint/powdercoat them myself. Plus, if you do decide to sell them, that would leave another level of customization completely up to the customers preference.

This is sweet! How much for a grill w/out the outer shield in the very front?

Its been a TON of work, but its nearly complete. I have been working on a grill for the 100 for about 8 months now and finally, the 1st prototype grill is on my Land Cruiser. I have a few different emblem options for the grill panel, but currently all I have is the original emblem. I will be painting a two-tone grill soon too (color matched to the car). I think the two tone will be pretty cool. The grill panel is bolted on and could easily be a painted a second color. Let me know what you think, I am really excited and very pleased with the design!! :) This has been a fun project.

The 80 Series grill is in the works now and should be done in the next 2 months.

Thank you. I am not selling them yet, and not sure if I will on a large scale. If I ever get that far I will post some more info of pricing. For now its just a fun project.

Haha, I think I remember saying that at some point.
Looks good and there seems to be good interest! I say go for it.

I think the airflow concerns are silly. The video of the 70 Series with the custom turbo couldn't be more apples-to-oranges.

I get that this is a 2-layered design and that "there's always a chance" that it could be the perfect design to restrict airflow, but I would feel more comfortable hazzarding my guess on the side that it will function much like the OEM design.

Kinda like the guys putting 2-4 HUGE off-road lights directly in-front of the radiator...airflow is always brought up and the owners (always?) reply that the lights have no effect on engine temps.

Totally my 2 cents, likely worth less...

I think your 2 cents is worth more than my 1 cent.

Proof of the pudding: OP takes it out in extreme conditions, watches temp guage prior to/after mod, looks for change, calls it a day. Makes more than our 3 combined cents (hopefully lots more)!

And I remember saying that as well... ;)

I'll take one without it being tested. I think the only time I would be concerned on a engine running hot with this "reduced airflow" is in extended traffic at very high temperatures which I see very little of. If a problem arises, I make bigger holes in the grill.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the ac condenser in front of the radiator restricting airflow?

How about all that plastic crap they put around engines today? Doesn't that trap heat?

Oh I like that...great attention to detail!
