I'm finally seriously on the hunt for a 40. I've come pretty close to pulling the trigger on a couple, but they weren't exactly what I was looking for and I have plenty of time to decide.
With that being said. details on what I'm looking for are below.
'68-'71 FJ40, original drive train is required. Prefer 3 on the tree is still on place, but not mandatory. I'd rather have a clean frame and body than a mechanically perfect truck. Original interior in any condition is better than brand new bucket seats. Original paint in any condition with a little rust and no previous body work or bondo is preferred over shiny new paint. Later model front axle and/or roll cage is a plus. Hard top and doors required. No cut fenders...

1976 FJ40 with good "bones" and ready for restoration and or make it into a wheeling or hunting rig.
Mechanically this thing is great. Steering is sloppy but it comes with all the ball joints and tie rod ends as well as the steering box rebuild kit to get everything back to like new.
Also comes with a slew of other parts like new plug wires, block heater and some other stuff I am forgetting currently.
Tyres, wheels and hubcaps are all brand new. It has an electric fuel pump and a Weber Carburettor with electric choke. Starts right up no matter how cold or warm. Drives, shifts, turns, stops as it should. Just the typical cosmetic issues with these rigs. If I was going to keep it I would likely fix the...

Folks this thing is amazingly clean! Anyplace you see primer I've just hit with a scotch brite pad for a seconds and it comes clean that fast. A buddy that has restored over 25 40's checked it out and said this is one of the two cleanest tubs he's seen!
Project 1970 FJ40. has a partial small block installed with a stock 3spd tranny and transfer case. Body has surface rust but ZERO rot that I can find. Driver's seat, no passenger seat, one rear bench seat.
I also have a running F motor with transmission and transfer case still attached. I have multiple sets of drive shafts.
Also included are front fenders, hood, front bib, good body tub with rear 1/2 doors windshield frame...
I sure hope a fellow MUD member got this one. It was on Craigslist Denver for a day. And sold in less than that for $3,500.

Why the sale? We've decided to reduce the fleet of projects and let go of one. I bought this 1979 about 5 years ago from a local carpenter that had it for yrs. He sourced it from Georgia which explains the best feature of this project. This 79 has the cleanest undercarriage I've seen on a 40. There is simply nothing wrong underneath, no delamination, no surface scaling, nada....
I gave this 79 to my wife on our wedding day in 2018 and we planned to restore it, but a 60 and 55 project are in line first and we need the room.

Hi All, I am selling my 1976 FJ40 that runs! When I bought it (before kids) I had thoughts about working on it. I have not had the time since kids. The previous owner rebuilt the Master cylinder. I put in a new gas tank, alternator and, battery. It runs and started up with little effort after sitting in the yard for 2 years. I have a May 73 build FJ40 for sale in Marietta,Ga. The vehicle doesn’t run. My dad bought it a few years ago for parts. It has a 1f motor and 3peed transmission and transfer case. Frame looks to be in good condition and the cowl is in great condition. Asking $2,250 for everything in the pictures that’s on the 40.

Selling this turn key and go 1979 FJ40 to make room for another new project. I purchased this unmolested 40 a little over 2years ago as a 3rd owner with no intention of selling it so some of the OCD came out in my restoration/modification. I wanted to have a nice 40 that I could drive reliability day in and out if needed but not make it too nice to take off road when I wanted to. It is time to sell my 5/73 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. The body is straight, and the only rust is in the rear sill and a half inch hole where the factory fuel tank used to be. The rear quarters are comp cut and the front fenders have been cut as well. It has a Kayline soft top and BestTop 2-piece doors that do not leak.
The engine is a Chevy 350 4 bolt main with Holly Pro-Jection and a thumper cam. Transmission is a SM420 mated to a 203 low range box to a Land Cruiser “3-spd” transfer case. Front axle is a built Toyota 8” with 5.29 gears, no-slip locker, 30-spline RCV axle shafts with 300m inners, 300m hub gears, and high steer. Rear axle is Toyota 9.5” semi-float with 5.29 gears and a LocRite locker. Tires are 36” radial Iroks...

This was my daily driver until I parked it 15 years ago. New plugs, wires, battery, air filter and starting fluid and it started right up. Chevy 350 engine connected to three speed Toyota transmission.
Because it sat so long, it is currently not road worthy. It starts, runs, drives, but brakes aren’t that good. Nothing is power (steering, brakes, etc.). It lived most of its life in Southern California but corrosion is present. Common area along back above bumper, and both wheel wells are showing some corrosion. Also just noticed that the driver floor pan is starting to rust...
