I, unfortunately, find myself in a position of having to downsize so the 40 has to go. It has a recently rebuilt stock engine (07/08) with three year 100,000 mile warranty. Engine rebuilt by Jasper Engine Rebuilders (JASPER Engines & Transmissions: Remanufactured engine: diesel, marine, import) At the same time a new thermostat, pilot bearing, water pump, and radiator were added.
Due to excessive drive line slop I had the rear differential (new ring and pinion) and transfer case rebuilt (new high speed gear shaft) with a new transmission output shaft replaced. The rear diff and transfer case were resealed with Japanese gaskets and seals purchased from Kurt at Cruiser...

I have purchase another cruiser and want to sell the greenbeast. looking for a fj40 project - pre-smog, registered or non-op ,needs to be capable of being repaired- frame in good shape and tub in fair shape. No affiliation, but a great project/trail cruiser for someone. Passes CA smog (at least passed smog last year) per owner. Already has a 350 v8, disc brakes and power steering. No pics on the link below. Got these from the owner. Usual rust.

1979 FJ40. The Smurf. I’ve had this truck for over 11 years. It was a completely stock cream puff when I bought it. It’s changed a little over the years. Here’s how it stands now…
Body:
Very clean body and frame. It’s a Texas truck although it did spend a couple of years in Illinois. There are some small rust spots in the rear corners that I bondo’d. The body and paint work on the tub is a 10-footer. I’d give it a 7 out of 10. Rear wheel wells cut and front fenders are cut. Herculined floors. Rear TJ flares. Includes excellent condition hard top and doors – no rust – very nice. Older Kayline fasttrac soft top with two piece doors. Full family cage bikini top.

My 1977 FJ40 is for sale.
I have owned this truck since 1993, I am the third owner and it was bone stock when I bought it, it even still had the original spare tire on the carrier.
I had planned to restore it, but I got interested in building it instead. The build is mild, just a 3" lift and 33's and is actually perfect for the type of wheeling I do.
The reason I am selling? I decided to build a FZJ 80.
It's not the best looking 40, but the truck runs great and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere.
The truck has the original 2F (77,000 miles)with GM HEI ignition, 105 amp GM alternator, SM 465 transmission, '77 Cruiser transfer case with early gears, ARB air locker in the rear, Auburn limited slip in...

I am selling my 1972 FJ40. Its in all original condition. It has original paint, original engine/drivetrain, and original non modified interior. I put a four inch safari springs life on the vehicle about a year ago. At that time i took the opportunity to scrape, clean, sand, and paint the entire underside of the vehicle. This is a very unique vehicle and hard to find in this untouched condition. Engine was rebuilt by Man-A-Fre approx. 1500 miles ago. It runs strong and starts first crank even in the cold. '72 TLC FJ40. Selling AS IS. Nice fixer up. I have no time to work on this gem. Needs body work. Some rust and erosion but majority is on the quarter panels, fenders and rockers. No erosion on interior of tub. Original ambulance doors and jump seats that are in GREAT condition. Interior is in great condition. Heater works, wipers work. Hard top in good condition. Clear and original title. Carburetor has been disassembled, cleaned and painted, but needs some adjusting. New plugs and wires, battery (heavy duty), fuel filter, missing a shock on driver side, the shock tower is broken. Included are refurbished shock towers for both sides and new heavy duty shocks. I am new to this Forum..,looks to be the best resource thus far, so hoping to get some responses. i won't waste your time.
I am looking to buy an FJ40 between $3-5K. Location: Needs to be somewhere in the Southest: GA, SC, NC, TN, AL.. Other locations need not respond, as I only buy things I can put my hands on.
It can be stock or modified, just want an FJ, and got some $$$ to do it with.
Ideally, it would be a late 70's model, w/ Disc Brake, Hard Top & Doors. Not interested in FJ's that need sever body work.

Personally this thing is gorgeous, if I did not have a baby on the way this would be mine. It only needs a little more tuning to be complete which the owner has taken the car to a mechanic to get it finalized. It rides smooth and the engine runs like a champ.
