So is it expected that that will be the head unit to use vs a new bezel + a head unit of choice? (I'm not asking you directly, it's more of a general question based on your description of the image above.)
No, it works ok and fills the space nicely, but if I remember correctly, there is a guy with a 3d scanner who may be working on a bezel that will work with most double din units.

I have a T'Eyes and will just use it initially, but if there are clean bezel options for other aftermarket headunits, I would consider switching.

I don't think this real, but a concept of what the HVAC would look like and a CGI stereo. If that Sony unit is real, you're right, very clean!

It's real, it just doesn't mount behind a bezel. It's a floating unit.

I think you're probably right. Looks like an AI concept rendering. If it's a real product that would be great, though.

I thought the goal was sell a product that removes the need for the NAV headunit system and retain HVAC controls.

After they work that out I assume they’d be working forward to a “trim kit” that would allow us to install a common double din stereo of our choice.

I think this conceptual rendering looks much better than a real-world double-din (too small for the space) or a floating screen headunit, which will appear to be unnecessarily floating since the actual screen of most of these types of head units could fit flush in the dash.

The Teyes unit fitment and bezel currently looks the best of available options on the market, though the hardware probably isn't the best option for optimal sound quality.

I'm sure depth is a concern, especially with all of the wiring harnesses tucked back there, but it would be nice to be able to mount a floating head unit deeper in the dash such that the floating screen appears flush-mounted. Of course, this would require fabrication of a custom mount as well as custom bezels to fit the various floating screen models available in the marketplace. With 3D printing, the concept is easier to implement, but the finish and color wouldn't rival injection-molded units.

After months of reverse engineering and design work, we’ve been held hostage by one tiny capacitor that was backordered for weeks.
No board redesigns, firmware setbacks, or new technical issues - just one final component holding up completion.

That delay is over now. Back to work.

This is great news. I can't wait to get one for my 05 LC.

Awesome! Been refreshing like a madman. Glad you are back on track.

Interesting! Good work. In case you've missed my thread. I went with a Teyes CC3 2K head unit. Very nice 2K screen. The screen looks really nice in my 2005 LX470 and the functionality is lightyears ahead of the stock system. The hardware is actually made by a company called FYT (which makes a lot of the Chinese Android Head Units). I run a different operating system called DuDuOS, which is much better than the Teyes software. The HVAC control is done via the Teyes App running on DuDuOS. It's not perfect but does the job. It would be nice to have a better HVAC app though and find a use for the tape slot in the dash ☺️

Question, could you use that Teyes and this HVAC, that Anarchy is building, together?
I'm not sure - probably. I'd have to read through all of this thread. From what I've read, the controls are legacy protocols and not Canbus. The Teyes software must be generating these codes. So I presume you could switch one for the other.

Personally, I'd be happy with a better HVAC app on the screen. It actually works OK, as an app, as it is. There is no floating button on DuDuOS, as there is on the Teyes OS. It's just an app that you can pin on the bottom of the screen.

DuDuOS is much better than the Teyes software and it is under constant improvement with a keen community of users/developers. It's free too. But you need the right hardware (Teyes CC3 2K works).

It might be a long read but the majority following this thread don’t want a Teyes unit. Please don't fill this thread up with it, this thread would be much closer to “Post 03 NAV delete thread”

We want non NAV like OEM controls for HVAC. Allowing us to do anything with a head-unit of our choosing.

I wonder if a unit like this might be a good complement to the standalone HVAC module being developed here. This appears to be aimed at non-nav models and does not mention provisions to control the HVAC system - anybody have any familiarity with this unit or one like it?

It’s the right size, but pretty sure it’ll be CCC (cheap Chinese crap).
I’d prefer standard double din sized unit from Japan… I know it won’t look OEM, but they just work.

Installed Chinese units in my BMW e39 and e46 tourings….
They looked good, but always had issues (not connecting to Bluetooth, poor sound, poor reception etc).
Went back to OEM in the e39 and put an Alpine unit in the e46… it doesn’t look OEM factory, but it’s worked flawlessly for the last 6/7 years.

I’ve got my eye on this Kenwood Halo DMX9724XDS Floating 10.1 HD touch screen Apple CarPlay • KENWOOD Europe - https://www.kenwood.eu/car/navigation_multimedia/multimedia/DMX9724XDS/
They do 2 sizes…it would need a custom bracket designed to make it fit properly and not float out in front of the dash, but it should be possible with 3d scanners and printers etc.

Thanks for the thoughts here - I'm sure you are correct on the quality of that unit. I love the idea of developing a bracket/bezel combination that could integrate that Kenwood unit into the dash without floating. That could be the best of all worlds.
