I started the resto of my 1968 FJ40, but other commitments force me to sell it.
The car was carfully dissasembled and all the parts were placed in bins.
It had a V8 convernversion using an Advanced Adapters Kit from the PO. I got rid
of the V8 as it was old and tired as well as the TH350 transmission, but kept all
the brackets for intalling a new Chevy 350 with a TH350. It also had a GM power
steering conversion and the steering box and adapter is still on the frame. A new
painless wiring loom was on the car, and was carefully removed and stored.
The tub was rhino lined, but some areas could use a touch up. It has a hardtop from a 1970's
FJ40 with ambulance doors. The tires are BF Goodrich and with lots of tread.

(No affiliation) This was on Craigslist a while back but it's not up there any longer. I drove by and it's still sitting there with the for sale sign. The guy's number is 754-213-8931. When I reached out to him he said:
"This car came from Venezuela. It doesn’t mark miles is on kilometers but that doesn’t work. Have to change cables. Put elastic bands on windows. Are some minimums details to repair. If you want to take a look let me know. It’s selling on thirteen thousand five hundred dollars (13,500.00$)"
When I asked to come see it he said it doesn't turn on because the battery is out of juice and I lost interest.

It's got matching olive doors on it now, more rusty around the bottom than the green doors, you can have either set.
All new OEM Toyota parts within 5k miles:
Steering except for the box (could use a seal).
Brakes, all components and hoses (DOT 4 fluid), booster from a 4Runner
Clutch, master, slave and all soft lines
All coolant lines, thermostat, water pump, original radiator disassembled, core rodded out
Front end rebuild including e-locker and rare long-body Asco hubs.
Seat covers and better, original seat bottom foam.
All original including most of the bolts. I have turned almost every bolt in 12 years and drilled and tapped quite a few. Almost all are OEM and correct.

Lots of photos. 95% rust free. I do have the rear sill cover and will be replacing. Small rust hole behind the transmission cover.
Painted about 10 years ago by previous owner. Not perfect but looks good. Small amount of bondo in front right fender.
Thought on this 78 fj40. Have some reservations given it has diamond plates around the tub and it wish it was patina with original red. That would have been cool. Just wondering thoughts from the group.

I go back and forth on selling (Sorry if you've reached out and I haven't replied). I'm finally ready to let these go. I'm not forced to sell, far from it, so no low-ballers please, but i'm open to a fair deal on all three, 10K (firm) takes them all. or ~$4,500 each (obo).

Rocker panels have rust - needs repair or replacement. It is a common rust spot, I believe. Rust spot lower rear window.
Love this vehicle. Family loves this vehicle. Not a lot of off road, and what there was, occurred on woods and field roads. This was my fall "hunt truck". Had all my gear in there and could head out when I had time.

Uncle Sam is really sticking it to me this year so after filing my taxes this week, I have decided I must sell my beloved 40. I bought it almost a year ago and have spent a lot of time and money to make it mechanically sound, with plans to focus on the body later (enjoy the scars for now). I now have it where it is extremely dependable, starts right up, rides beautifully and is a joy to drive. I do have hard doors for it, but no hard top - only a family bikini top. The body is not in great shape, but does the job. The frame has surface rust but is completely solid.
Work I have done includes....
- new windshield and seal
- ConFerr bumper mounted took box
- Removed wire harness and patched a bunch of mess the PO made
- OEM radiator and...
Figured i would put the 40 up for sale as a whole and if it does not sell in a few weeks, will be going to the part out section. I do not have the title for this.

Vehicle History:
This U.S.1970 Fj40L-VA was sold originally by Deal and Davie Inc. (1107 Main Susanville, CA 96130) to Dean A. Spencer P.O. Box 802 Herlong, CA 96113. Purchased on 1-2-1971. Story goes, Mr. Spencer was quite the outdoorsman and specifically an avid fisherman. He had a cabin near Angels Camp, CA This was the home base for this FJ40. For roughly 40 years Mr. Spencer's main use for this vehicle was accessing fishing spots with his aluminum boat that was towed through the mountains by this fj40. Mr. Spencer sold the car to Jerry ***** out of Stockton, CA in 2000. Jerry told me it was so nice and original he had to have it, but had so many other projects including other fj40s that he decided to put it in storage...
For sale is my 1977 FJ40. I drug this out of a barn in Buck Creek ,Al in 2016 and have been doing a frame up restoration ever since. She has a great running 2F with 4 speed trans. Too many things to list but top has new drip rail, new weatherstripping except for the front windshield, front seats been reupholstered, all lights work and harness in good shape, new dizzy from city racer, also new oem radiator, new hoses water pump,t-stat etc. Holley carb setup with headers, carb cleaned and runs great, new brake pads and shoes and rear wheel cylinders, new master cylinder. Front and rear axles rebuilt with new bearings, seals and has warn hubs on front axle As well as new tie rod ends on steering. She drives great. PO did springover And she...
With a couple upgrades, this would make a cool retro trail rig.

The vehicle has a new old man emu / Koni suspension,new exhaust,new injectors, new TOYO MT tires, and no rust because the Landcruiser came original from sunny Italy.
The Landcruiser is very original and comes with the restored original Toyota PTO winch, jack,toolbag and owner's manual. Only the font seats are much comfortable than stock.
The engine runs like a Swiss clockwork.

Looking for a California registered title and frame. I want to build a new FJ40 body with real steal parts but need California vin/Tag/frame . Any year till 1974 ..pre-smog. On a Non-op tag is ok too.

I have a 1976 (3/76) FJ40 that I love but right now I need at pickup truck more. I need a 3/4 ton (F250 or 2500) truck, crew cab, 4x4. If this might interest you message me and I can give you full details on the FJ40. The FJ40 is an original USA import model, 2F engine, with hard top. Lots of work has been done, very minor rust spots on the body. Would also sell but that's a different post.
Corresponded with this guy, got some additional pics. The ones in the ad are not high res so attached them here.
All is legit, from what I can gather remotely. A few notes:
> 3 Speed Trans
> Front drum brakes
> No heater
I got over the first, but couldn't get over the drum brakes. Yes, conversion kits, but for a 78 I wanted it disc from the factory. The heater, blah, gives me the room to put in a more modern unit with AC.
Otherwise the body and restoration work looks properly sorted.
