I just recently bought an LC 100 for 7k with 350k miles in good condition other than few fixes here and there, and few days later I found an 80 series that is in very good condition for 5k with 200k miles on it and now my wife giving me the weird look of "don you f dare do it" I'm seriously considering getting it, my wife said if you spend the 5k on the lc 100 in adjustments and modifications you could return it to perfect condition instead of buying the 80 series, her idea is solid , but still I'm itching to get the 80 series is killing me. what do you think guys

now my wife giving me the weird look of "don you f dare do it"

You just gotta sit her down and say "Listen! You need to calm down honey. You're over reacting . . ."

Then go buy the 80. :hillbilly:

She's not wrong about improving the 100 but then you'd still have a 100 with 350k miles on it.

That 80 looks clean, but it's 30 years old, and you'd probably still sink 5k into it in catching up on PM and replacing degraded rubber parts and the inevitable repairs that can crop up on a 30 year old truck.
Sell the 100 for $7k, but the 80 & spend $5k on PM/ baselining, add $2k for accessories, you're back to spending $12k

negotiations with the wife are in progress :D, fingers crossed if i can drop the price to 4.5k it would be a no brainer even more if it needs major fixes.
what should i check first in the car and what are the issues that could mean no deal to you guys regarding the 80 series.

That 80 looks clean for 5k !!

I would say, if I was in your situation I would also be having the conversation with the spouse. One thing I have learned is that most spouses don't give a rip about what car you have unless it effects them. You need to figure out how to negotiate the purchase in a way that would be palatable to her. Maybe suggest posting the 100 and then negotiating the 80 sale. In truth, this put more leverage on your side and if the 80 doesn't work then you aren't out anything.

The 80 looks clean and good in the pictures ($5k is cheap if in good condition). As for what to check, there are a couple checklist/guides you can follow. Slee has a checklist on their site, OTRAMM has a good video on YouTube, and there is a checklist in the pinned comments at the top of this page.

I see the check engine light is on in the last picture but you aren't showing rpm so this may be a key on situation but if valid, I would definitely pull codes to see why the check engine light is on, that would be my first step! :)

What is your intended use of the cruiser you keep? This would impact how I would move forward. I have both and I daily my 100. The 80 just doesn’t make sense for me to even keep but there it sits in my driveway.

I also noticed the check engine light i will have to go and check it out myself this week, thanks @Brindleboxer for the info on OTRAMM will update you guys here regarding the car

I already have a second car for daily use the LC 100 is for outdoor and camping and mountain on the weekends

...all my Land Cruisers are my daily drivers

Already mentioned above, you need to go into it with your eyes open (buying a 30 year old 80 Series) and find someone who knows this model to go over the 80 with you to see what it needs. But then it appears you and the vehicle are both located in Oman so there should be some good mechanics who work on these regularly.

Which model 100 Series did you buy (FZJ105?)

heres my thoughts; sell 100...buy 80, baseline it and then sell it. its relatively low mileage. hopefully there will be some profit after selling the 80 and 100. then take that money and put it into a later model 100 with less mileage and go from there.

If your environment and intended usage doesnt include rock crawling and the demand for a solid front axle, theres no point in buying an old truck with high maintenance demand and costs.

i don't intend to go rock crawling maybe some light usage here and there on the mountains, I like the the look of the 80 series more than the 100 thats why i was interested

I get that..and outside of the difference in looks a 100 does suffice your needs by the sounds of it...
But in comparison they handle like s***, low on power, very thirsty, parts are getting harder to find, and if youre not doing the work yourself finding someone to work on a vehicle that old can be tricky and thats if they know how to. Theres a lot of mechanics..or should i say technicians out there these days that have never even touched a distributor before.

I've got one of each and I can't imagine selling either one. They're each good at different things, and I definitely need them both.

The real question is if you also need an FJ55. Let her win that one.

You could go on a bender and buy four 40’s to distill and curate down into 3/4 of one. It could/might happen.
