Hello, I am in Houston, Texas and looking for an FJ 40 or 42. I’m flexible on color. I’m not an off-roader and would mainly use it around town and on flat roads at our farm. I would like for it to be as original as possible and don’t love a lot of the off-road modifications. Disc brakes are a plus. I don’t want to do a major restoration. Price range 20-35k preferred. Apologies if this should have gone in the tech forum- I wasn't sure after reading the User Guide.
I'm interested in a 1972 Toyota Landcruiser FJ40 posted in my neck of the woods a few days ago. My dad isn't really a car guy, so I'd like to access the collective wisdom of the group.
21.5K miles. Guys says it starts and runs "good." Needs a clutch master cylinder ("current one leaks onto floorboard") and a valve cover gasket (from email with owner).
Rust: "One quarter panel has about a half dollar cancer spot coming through, nothing anywhere else"
If I make the trek to look at it, what should I be watching out for? Any mechanical issues I should be able to diagnose, even without being able to drive it far because of the...

1968 Toyota Land Cruiser fj40
This fj40 has been upgraded for daily driver use as well as off road competency. Cosmetics were never a consideration with this land cruiser, it has an old paint job and a few funky little rust spots on the corners of tub and door sills, but is very solid , straight and stock overall. Never wrecked and clean California title.
It has its original engine 5x,xxx miles, but upgraded to headers and a Webber carburetor. The transmission is a Toyota 5 speed, making it much more drivable on highway than the original 3 speed. I picked up this stalled project a while back, and it’s still stalled. I’m just not going to get to it. I’m offering it here at a loss before I list it to the non mud community.
The chassis is completely redone. Fitted with rough country suspension kit, springs and shocks. Front axle was updated with FJ60 disc brakes and FJ 60 power steering. Borgerson collapsable steering shaft. All front steering and tie rods are new. Shock towers were replaced with F250 towers.
Tub was repainted by the PO. Comes with hard doors not installed, and an new set of Aqualu half doors. No top. Floors, trans tunnel all in great shape...

1974 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. 1.5F engine mated to the stock 4 speed. Sniper EFI and Rob Mc power surge installed so the fuel system remained stock while also upgrading to EFI. Fuel Tank is unmodified. Most of the tub has brand new panels from CCOT. Inside and underneath tub have been Bedlined in color matched Monstaliner. I have for sale a very nice and original 1972 FJ-40L Landcruiser. It has always been in Texas so very little rust. Clean clear Texas title.
It is all original and all the parts are there. It has the original six-cylinder engine and runs well and does not smoke. 4 wheel drive with 3 speed manual transmission. This Landcruiser does run and drive but needs to be restored.
It would not take much to get it to a daily driver stage or give it a full restoration.

I am selling my 1978 FJ40 as an incomplete project. It does not seem like I will have the time to finish this and I need to move on. The truck is a 1978 West Coast truck with 84,000 original documented miles. It does not have the original motor , the previous owner blew it up. Land Cruiser FJ40 complete Body Tub. Tub, Cowl, Fenders all included. Floors front & rear are in good condition. Cowl is excellent. Fenders have rust by braces where they all rust. Rear quarters overall not too bad. Worst areas is the rear sill and above rear tail lights. The ONLY thing that is included is the complete Body Tub. No wiring, frame, axles, ID plates, knobs, switches just the Body Tub. This is all original. If you look close you will see the Cowl is separated from the rear body at the seam.
First $850.00 takes it. I will be reasonable if you need to make shipping arrangements, but need it gone.
