Buying wheels and tires NOW, need some help with sizing and "backspacing".

Am buying some new steel anf rubber. This is the first time i've purchased these for a 40. Need to know a few things before clicking "purchase".

Do i need to be concerned with backspacing?? I am unfamiliar with this.

Planning on an 15x8 wheel with 33-35x10.5 tires. Any issues here?

4in lift in progress. Why choose a smaller or larger wheel width?? It seems 15 in is standard size, but when is a wider/narrower wheel necessary? I've read around and it seems that 6 7 and 8 in wheels are the most popular. Which do I go with??

thanks in advance!

forgot

I do not want the lowrider look of wheels out of the wheel wells. it's not an impala! by the way:steer:

I think it's 3.5 backspacing for both of mine. I think that is standard. I have 16's on 35's and 15's with 33's. I'm considering getting rid of the 15's and get 16's instead. I just need to figure out how to convince the wife I need more tires. The real question is what will it be used for most of the time. The tire guy was telling me that more rubber and bigger the tire the, harder it is to balance. Going a taller wheel will help, he said. That being said 17's on 35's maybe good deal if you do a lot of highway driving. I think it boils down to preference and what amount of cash you want to spend.

For backspacing go with 3.5". As far as your wheel, it depends on your use. My 71 FJ40 is a rock crawler so I have 15" wheels with 37" rubber. If it were primarily a trail rig an or daily driver I would definitely have gone with 17" wheels.

sounds like some good advice..

I think a 16 rim will give a few more metric choices/tall skinnies 15 will aliitle cheaper but doubt enough to matter but I see used 33x15 go for a song around here all the time

Purchased

I went with 15x8 and 2.5 backspacing on the Rock Crawler Series 97 wheels.

Super Swamper LTBs were the tire I chose. They were inexpensive and within my budget.

anybody got any thoughts???

did you go with 33s or 35s?

33s can fit with 2.5-4 inch lift, 35s you will need 4 inches and probably trim around the rear arches

10.5 fit inside 12.5s stick out some, both can look good but I prefer the 10.5s

actual purchase

4 rock crawler series 97 15x8 wheels with 2.5 backspacing
4 super swamper LTBs 34x10.5

i am planing the 4" lift, then wheel and tire application..

keeping my fingers crossed but think i made out alright.

total : in the neighborhood of $875

got the tires and wheels on 4wheelparts.com

If you call 4wheelparts and get someone who does not mind searching they do have a 3" or a 2.5" backspacing black steel wheel in stock too. The problem is not many of the sales people can find it or care to try and find it.

4WheelParts

they did me right this time..hopefully this is always the case.

I coould not get those wheels to fit over the calipers on my front disc conversion. I had to take them back for a refund. They look great!
