I like this idea and with some clever design I bet it could be added with minimal extra bulk. It would be a fun design to take on if I were being paid by the hour. Problem is, cost would go through the roof and I doubt there are many buyers out there that would spend the $$ to support the development. Making a key shell is one thing. Making a custom light housing complete with custom switch, wiring, LED and circuit is quite another. Doable, just very time consuming to do it the way I'd want a YotaMD product to be done.

I'm a fan of the Streamlight nano and the rechargeable SureFire flashlight for keychains. Surefire makes a pocket-knife type one too. It's a crowded market space with some pretty slick options out there.

Nano on my chain as well.

YotaMD, Not sure if it is the fact I bring my key along while running (sweat) or overall salty air environment (Hawaii) but I'm seeing corrosion on the bolt heads. Any chance you have access to a higher grade stainless steel or coated metal option?

Those are the black oxide screws. In the kit you should also have stainless steel screws (silver in color). I would recommend switching over to the stainless steel screws. I've seen some of those black oxide screws show corrosion like that and it seems to be random. It will be more likely in humid climates like yours. My supplier for the screws is a domestic supplier in the midwest providing real DIN spec screws, but some do seem to corrode faster than others.

The real stainless screws should be good forever, though. If you don't have the stainless screws from the original kit just let me know and I'll send out some replacements.

Very good Andy, I’ll dig out the package to make sure I have a set of SS screws. I knew you would be all over it. Thanks, Greg!

YotaMD, any chance you can offer the 3 button version that has a trunk release button and no panic button?

Oh interesting. What vehicle is that for? I'll include that in my next run.

It’s for a 2013 Toyota 86. Sounds good, I’ll be watching this thread for updates. By the way there was some interest in a slimmer key fob over at the 86/BRZ forum so I pointed them to your website

No way, that's awesome! Those are cool cars. Thanks for the insight. I'll get some made up.

PSA - don’t drop it. I’ve had one of these fobs for a couple months. I dropped it on the trail over the weekend and the fob broke. It landed on a rock and broke around where the valet key is - height was probably about 6-7’. They look pretty tough so for it to break after such a mild drop was surprising

Pm incoming. Your replacement is on me. I'd love to see where it broke so I can reinforce it in future revisions. You must have hit it in just the wrong place.

The largest benefit of my manufacturing strategy is that I can make changes very quickly and easily. If there's a weak spot, it can be toughened up readily.

That’s awesome! Now we just need a fob for the 16MY!

Order placed for two 3 button covers. Can't wait. Anything to lighten the load in my pocket.

Just put my FDE and Orange remote shells together. Piece of cake but...

1) The orange one did not have the spring clip in the hardware kit. I tried to find an email link on your site, but couldnt find one. Apologies if this is the wrong way to notify you of the missing piece.

2) The webbing that holds the lock and unlock buttons together was broken, so the lock button is almost floating free. Just a little bit of plastic on either side keeping it in place. Does anyone know of a way to patch the button so it stays in better, or know of a way to get replacement buttons without buying an entire additional remote from Toyota?

Love the look, especially the FDE and the smaller size is great.

Re likelihood of breakage & drops...

To me, the beauty of the flatter smaller FOB is that it almost never leaves my pocket, and it MUCH less prone to being “squeezed” out from movement. So it follows that if it rarely leaves my pocket...opportunities to drop it are minimal.

Do I think the original, blobby FOB was stronger? Yes. But it was fat, rounded and smooth...and far more prone to getting loose from my pocket than the textured, slim, more edged YotaMD.

1. Sure, I'll send out a spring clip. Sorry if that got missed in your hardware bag! Email is admin@yotamd.com . I probably need to put that at the bottom of each page if the template will let me.
2. One of my testers has a broken button "web", but it's not noticeable once it's assembled. Does yours move around once installed? That would be surprising because mine are very tight.

Button moves a little but hasnt popped out. So apparently there's enough left to overlap the opening enough. At some point I'll take it apart and see if there's some way to attach a backing to the button to make it even more secure. Just because thats what I do for fun.

Thanks for sending the clip. It looks like you sent it even though I hadnt replied to the email address. Havent received he clip but did get the shipping notice.

Yes, there should be enough coverage from the shell to keep the button in place, but shoot me a PM with some pictures if not. Maybe you've got an odd button version.

I did send a clip, and then got your order for another shell kit and included an extra in there as well. You should have plenty by the time you get all your packages!

This thread needs more pics. Here ya go!
