Tonight I’m working on restoring the fresh air pull and heater motor switch.

If you guys thought I was going over board on the canvas bed mounts well I decided to nerd out a little more and have my mother in-law who is handy with a sewing machine re relate the original black canvas hood shins and apron shims :D

These are her initial prototypes, we’ve since switched to a more robust cord to provide more restance to compression by the hood.

You’re killing us JP

I didn’t plate the heater core, though the thought did cross my mind ;), the core is brass I just simply cleaned and polished it.

As for plating the rest of the stuff I’m just following Mr. T’s lead on what to plate and what not too. I did plate a few things like latches and hinges that would have simply been painted at the factory, but I wanted to provide an additional layer of corrosion resistance. I’ve had bad results with rust leaching out of hinges after exposure to the elements in the past.

Are you using photos? All those old ones are black and white it seems. It’s really amazing. Carry on

I do have a good brochure and magazine article collection from the 60s to help guide me and you’re right they all are pretty much black and white. I think I have just a few in color. Also helps I’ve had two ‘65 “survivor” types that hadn’t been changed so I could really see what was painted, chromed, or zinc plated from the factory. All that said I’m doing my best to be as accurate as possible on the resto but I know I’ll get a few things wrong.

This is my 60s stuff mainly ‘65 and older

This is really the only color multi page brochure I have.

Completely obvious. We need an LC convention.

Update time...

I’ve been wanting an enclosed car hauler for a while and transporting a freshly painted body seemed like a good enough excuse to pull the trigger. So I picked up this over the weekend....

My wife took pity on me with the heat setting in the lovely South and let me sort this golden pile inside tonight, though she says I need a Cruiser intervention :grinpimp:

Not sure how I feel about the SD40 after plating. The iridescence this time around from the plater was on the bright side o_O What do you guys think? Originally best I can tell they had a mild zinc/ cadmium coating from the factory.
