I currently have skyjacker 2.5" lift springs on my fj40 with extended shackles. I want to convert to a spring over lift with a goal of running 36 or 37" tsl sx tires. Would a spring over using my current springs make my cruiser too tall? Are other 40 owners running lifted springs on their spring over conversions? By the way I have already trimmed my rear sheet metal up to the top of the wheel well and am comforably running 33" bfg mt without any problems I don't want to turn it into a gawky overlifted pos ya know what I mean?
Thanks for any advice. Pics of your SOA with lift springs would be awsome

I just recently did a spring over on my fj62 after throwing a 2.5 OME medium on it. It's gynormous. It was far bigger than I expected, and honestly looks a bit goofy. All of my buddies think it looks "tits," and, well you can definately see a lot of those from this height. I am running 36" Perellis under it and have room for about two bull rhinos and a three-tent circus. I don't know if this answers any questions re: your FJ40. Prepare for hard looks and a lot of grinding!!

Pick up some old original springs from somebody and go SOA. You'll fit 36" or 37" tires without a problem especially if you've already done some trimming. Also, you'll be less tippy with a lower center of gravity going SOA with old stock sprints. Just my .02 worth. Good Luck.

Can Trade a set of good stock springs, shipping on my dime... + A case or two or three or four or... you get the point. of beer for you

I knew a guy who ran 35's with 2.5" OME springs SOA and he was always laying it over. I was going to say that I ran SOA with stock springs and 38's just fine, but forgot about the 3" body lift. Another buddy ran 37's just fine, tucked in real nice. Go with stock springs.

pull out a leaf or two and run them...

be prepared for a rear wrap bar as they're gonna be pretty soft...

stock 40 leaves end up needing a add a leaf often anyways..

The 2.5 inch lift springs often work well in the rear of an SOA. Just to counter sag when you load up heavy for a long trail.

Other wise, stick with stock springs. You don't need lft springs with an SOA and you sure as heck don't want extended shackles.

You'll clear 38s with stock springs, no problem.

Il run 36'' tsl sx on 15x8.5 wheel, with a soa and stock spring and i don't have any rubbing issue, and i din't trim the rear wheelwell! I think that with the 2.5 Skyjacker you will have plenty of room for 37 or 38 without rubbing!

Thanks for the replies
I am still in the planning stage for my spring over, I want to get all my ducks in line before I go foward, hence it would be a while before my current lift springs would be available for a trade. From what it sounds I will probably revert back to stock springs for my soa conversion.

Thanks for the help
