Oh yeah and at one point I was using a paint scraper to get the thick globs of grease off and this thing plopped off.... apparently a rock, good sized, had glued itself to the side of the output end of the tcase!

As a smaller sized person I have to get creative to stay safe.... I needed to get the crossmember off so here’s how I kept it from rolling while I used the impact wrench.

Up and at ‘em! Used an plumbing auger to rough up and clean out as much of the built of years of wheeling mud/silt etc w/ the hose. As much as I hate that hoist, it’s a mighty strong one.

And now the tcase is apart thanks to my friendly neighborhood powder coater, Rob who has a sweet 20 ton HF manual press. Will clean and then assemble at some point this week.

Much appreciation to @OTRAMM for his YouTube video w/ great dissembly tips.

Is that used oil or Liquid Film?
Plus I imagine fluid film is clear being that it’s derived from lanolin. Not ugly burnt old oil brown.

I drew myself a cute little diagram to help me remember where what goes. As long as Robs daughter doesn’t go into labor I plan to get back to his press tmrw or this weekend after work. Splines all look square, I don’t think this truck was ever wheeled much.

I can’t disappoint any of you...

Well I manned the press. Told Rob I prefer to only be mad at me if something gets messed up. He was happy to let me handle it all stating ‘your in deeper than I’ve ever been; I’ve never rebuilt an engine!’ Go big or go home right?
Ok well I got the output front shaft in no prob.
Started in on low gear w/ it’s bearing and had a sense something wasn’t right. It was going but I could see how I’d set it up something wasn’t meshing well. I pulled the assembly out and noticed I was shaving some copper from the inside of the gear. Luckily it’s not bad. I’m not too anxious. I had lubed but I really think my platform wasn’t firm enough and I was getting a teeter inward.

I was able prior to all this to get the little pilot bearing w/ a rental slide hammer and puller from Napa. We won’t go into how I broke the pilot bearing I had.... but the new bearing is in now. It definitely helped to put it in the freezer for a bit to be able to push it in easier.

Well now I feel like an ass... apparently the gears to shaft should be slip fit. Haha, oops.

A little polish w/ 600, oil and they slid right together. Phew!

Maybe I missed the post, but what prompted you to dig into the t case?

Was already half way there and I was gifted a rebuild kit, so hey, why not?
