Rangers can be like that. A friend and I went backpacking in Guadalupe Mountains National Park years ago, from the New Mexico side and up across the high ridges to the Texas side, which is accessed right off the main highway between Carlsbad Caverns National Park and El Paso. It was a pretty hot time of year, and when we got down to the stream in the bottom of McKittrick Canyon we left the trail, walked over to the stream, took off our boots and socks, and started to soak our feet. No sooner than our feet hit the water a ranger came out of nowhere and started yelling at us - "Get out of the water!". I guess the stream is a pretty rare thing out in the desert, and the ecosystem could get destroyed due to the crowds coming in off the highway. Anyway, the trail crossed the stream at least three times on the way to the parking lot, and sure enough, there was a ranger posted at each crossing to make sure no-one touched the water as they crossed the stepping stone stream crossings. That looks like a good time with your boy.
From your camera angle it looked like you were going to drop in from the shed roof.
Went to Crater Lake National Park back in the early 2000’s. Climbed up on a buried cabin and dropped in with my snowboard. A park ranger caught me, took down my name, address and phone number and said I was going to get a ticket. I asked for what? He said the buildings are old and I could damage them. There was 15 feet of snow on top of the cabin... like my weight was going to have any impact on the structure. I guess he was just doing his job. Never got one.
