Maybe a burnt piece of main bearing?

>_< this doesn't look good......

Don't go there. Unlikely to be main bearing. Just sayin'.

F doesn't want to rebuild this motor, yo...

@g-man calm down and stop going crazy on my photos. I’ll get under and look tmrw but I’m quite sure @FJACS is correct, that’s the crank.
I do recall someone right before all this told me ‘you won’t get that oil pan down easily, it gets hung up on the pump.’ And that comment was farther from the truth than ever. Let my eyes, ears and hands do the investigating and try not to over analyze the photos too much.

Ok so I went out and looked in that area that some were questioning... its the crank. I tried sticking my phone up and inside that area but all I got was a connecting rod arm. Rained wicked yesterday late afternoon so driveway is wet and I’d need to pull out my cardboard mats to lay down under there.
Possibly later.
This is what I got...

Out in this miserable humid heat while ‘I hope’ my 5 year old naps. Got number 1 bearing out easily earlier w/ a 50mm driver tool that fit perfect against the bearing and inside the journal hole. It’s scored ID from my futzing w/ the diz gear which refused to come out on the slightest angle. OD has original machines lines and the funky scalloped joint is still very visible like the new bearings waiting to go in.

ID of number 1 journal hole looks good. Smooth. One vertical line I can feel slightly w/ my nail but I’m not worried.

Taking some measurements on number 3 and putting together a threaded rod that fits right into an adapter that then goes into my welded tool w/ the 50mm driver.

Photo is of the tool w/ driver held into number 3 from under the block. Red and yellow lines are pointing to the meeting of driver and bearing. OD difference is 1.96 and 1.93.

I’m only using the driver for pushing out. Plan is to use the rubber expandable plug for insertion because I don’t dare risk rolling the edges on the new ones during install w/ a harder material.

Will be doing a trim to the driver once kid emerges from the house. He’s under orders to stay in the bedroom for an hour. Timer is set. Pretty sure he’s out. We had a late night last night going to see some fireworks and he was highly crotchety hence the orders to take a quiet time.

Got the driver trimmed before kid woke. He was wiped. Slept almost 2 hours. Lucky me!
I did give him a demo on the bench grinder. I’ll need to get a better stone. The driver was a harder metal and I ended up using a file to get it down to 1.93. Possibly after dinner I’ll try pushing 3 out if timing works.

Happy 4th all. Grilling some turkey loins, sweet potato fries and a cracked open my last beer while kid is inside. Invited my neighbor over but he declined... good thing, I have no more beer to share. Gonna head to store for some sparklers to play later w/ kiddo. Slim chance I’ll have an opportunity to push num 3.

Watching you work this problem, Yota, reminds me of a story about a proctologist who changed careers and became an auto mechanic. He was able to overhaul engines by only working in through the tail pipe. Maybe nurses who fix trucks have similar Elastigirl abilities.

I hope you work it out and finally have the steady, daily driver you've been working towards and deserve.

I LOLed

And there I was just minutes ago rolling my finger around the now empty number 3 journal hole, sniffing it and looking at the color I came up with!
Yeah being a nurse definitely has some parallels to mechanics!

Now why did I not stop for beer?! Musta not had enough faith I’d be celebrating after bringing kiddo to dad.
Here’s how I did it....
50mm driver.... lots of measuring the new bearing OD and ID. Mechanical filing the driver, more measuring, getting under truck and fitting it in and looking close w/ a light. Rinse repeat many times.

Man, anything in the world is possible.

Bearing number three inspection. Right off when I picked it up it stank like burned oil just like when I had been driving her. Visual inspection really reveals not much, looks good, no scratches, machines lines look exactly like the new bearing. Ran my finger inside the journal hole and came up very gray, was it getting ready to spin or had it already but stayed inplace?

Great work Fel. Extremely impressed...as I'm sure we all are.

Thanks. Honestly tho that probably wasn’t the really hard part. Definitely don’t want to get ahead of myself!

She rocks!
