I have done just that. And torqueon those wasn’t huge as you stated the fact that some of the metal is softer than the other.

When I pull them, I’m going to add two gaskets, copper permatex and friggen cross my fingers.

Was able to open up the driver door today to replace the regulator. Clearly someone’s been in there previously.
The rubber felt rain guard at the inner top is in ugly shape. I may either Macgyver it or swap it w/ a rear.
And had to rip out that plastic so I’ll replace it w/ a piece of clear plastic I had in the garage. I pondered using a feed bag for fun but I do prefer being able to see through if I need to get back in. I know this would be a wise time to add some sort of sound barrier but I didn’t think to pick any up. My outer handle springs or whatever their called are coated in something gross too...

Once kiddo naps I’ll get back out there to clean and do the swap.

I had previous to the last install. Apparently I ditched it tho or I would have reused it this next time. I’ve had those bitches off way more times than I like to admit. I’ve got a felpro in the garage and another no name one another member sent me here in the house. I’m honestly gonna put them together w/ permatex and torque the f out of the bolts. Plus I grabbed a couple lock washers for the two main studs which have never had any. My friend pointed it out seeing the nuts going straight against the flanges... I had no idea washers were necessary (there were never there) until I spied them being used on another persons mani.

I was into my d-side door the other day and while there I sprayed silicone lubricant on all the moving bits (including the lock.) I was amazed at what a difference it made!

That's ancient white lithium grease out of a spray can on the handle pivots/springs. Doubt it was factory just someone's attempt to get it working smooth at some point. For me the jury is out on that stuff based on how it gets crusty over time. I don't have a better solution other than taking such things apart, fully cleaning and using a light oil on them. Really no biggie if you only have to do it every 10 or 15 years.

I have that exact same part sitting in a box in my living room right now waiting to go into my d-side door. Dorman 749-820.

Getting a new regulator in 2 of my doors was one of the single best things I’ve done and makes me so happy every time I use them. Too expensive to do all four though. Is Dorian cheaper than the one Onur sells? What’s the right part number?

I don’t blame you for tightening the F out of them. I think about doing that every time I look at them. Def need the crush washers to take up the difference in potential thickness as you now know. I better check mine!

You mentioned earlier to have that immaculate machinist guy check them out before putting them on... I know you mentioned the head side had one area that was 5 thousands off, if I understood correctly. If you haven’t had it done, he can put your manifold on a machinist’s surface and check the thickness of the gaps between the flat surface and each manifold port while it’s bolted together - make sure they are within tolerance (I think 20 mils, .020” the value is in the fsm, but I wouldn’t want anything bigger than 10 mils, at most. Mines bigger than that I think).

You can do it yourself by bolting it up to the head without a gasket and then slip a feeler gauge in there to find out how large a gap you are working against. Or just put it together with doubles, I’ve heard that works from our cruiser guru out here. Good luck!!!

No worries, you will get it sorted.
One thing noticed when I replaced my driverside regulator, is that the plastic sheeting is slotted back into the door near the bottom, this allows condensation to run out the (hopefully) unclogged drains...

Front carpet is out. Tcase is leaking upward to stick. Stinks nasty. Holes in driver side floor.
One good thing... looks like there’s nothing wrong w/ the rear heater other than it was unplugged.
