I had line-x quote mine, $750

I think I’m going the same route minus the carpet. Looking good!!

Holy crap! $90/gallon doesn't seem too bad then. You going with the traditional headliner? Need something to absorb some of the sound reflections in there...

No headliner. White lizardskin is all.

Cool you can relive the 70’s with the popcorn style ceilings. Actually very appropriate for our vintage cruisers! :)

Of course I ran out of headliner glue. But at least it isn’t a project that has to be all done at once. Spent a bunch of time ironing the creases out and got about 2/3 of it glued down. So far so good, happy with results. Once fully glued I’ll do a final trim around the edges.

And protecting it from the cat - secured off the floor and backside blocked. If she somehow figures out how to claw the carpet it will be instant death.

Carpet all done! I know, not OEM oh well. Looks 100 times better than it was and should do the trick for sound damping.

And now time to bond the roof to the rain gutter. Then when that’s done it will get several coats of the marine grade epoxy primer/barrier. Then paint. Not sure I can get that all done with cure times... we shall see!

I was hoping to get the top bonded tonight however going to require a little “fitment” on the top (meaning some light grinding). Cross country expedition has been postponed a week so I’m still good. Will get it bonded up this weekend. Weird seeing a top on it!

Looks great Mike!!

Let’s see... if I could go back in time and just bought the trollhole soft top I want my wallet would’ve been lighter, but I will live longer since this roof/gutter is going to be the death of me. I don’t know how many hours I’m into this, but it is too many. The “minor fitment” required is seriously misleading. But it is what it is.

I made progress as you can see but I’m not confident I got 100% bond between the gutter/roof. In hindsight I should’ve waited on the carpet and did that after the roof was bonded - I could’ve made sure the inside was bonded and epoxied the inside right after the outside. Then I could’ve taken the entire cap off to do the carpet. Live and learn. I will buy fillable caulk tubes and shoot some more epoxy to fill the joint to ensure a tight bond.

Did a bunch of yard work too I am torched.

Haha, looks like you're preparing it for a local homecoming parade. Colorful!

So long weights! Got the roof all tightened down. Will lightly sand and then marine epoxy primer on Saturday and paint Sunday. Decided it will be easier to tape and cover the body and paint in place vs. take it off. May regret that but wouldn’t be the first time I did something questionable... Oh and I need to install the rear hatch which will include the modification of the lifts so they hold up the hatch without tightening them down (hydraulic lift inside mod). So close I can almost taste it... :)

Got the first coat on - this stuff is pretty gnarly. Sets up pretty quick since it is an epoxy. Everything seemed fine until...

...I noticed this. How did I not see this before? There is a good sized gap between the windshield visor and the windshield frame. Ugh. I measured the old holes on the original top and amazingly enough they are about the same distance off. Should’ve never assumed the holes in the other top would work. Crap!!!! I’m thinking of putting some spacers behind it and calling it done. Will be a major project to move it, including removing top, cutting carpet, re-sealing the visor, drilling new holes, and patching old holes. The gasket is on the windshield frame so it is air and water tight. Just has that funky gap. Thoughts? Maybe something I fix in the future but I’m thinking in the interest of time to do the temp fix.

Windshield top weatherstripping looks funny. Is it backwards?

That would be my luck - but I don’t think so. It fits on the top edge and then steps down. This is a @Racer65 seal and there are cutouts on the inside that fit over the windshield hold down holes.

You could put some thick weather stripping in there and it would look pretty normal. Top is looking good.

Brilliant!!! Just need to find some that won’t hold water. Thank you for the idea. :)

Coat #2 now on! This stuff is pretty impressive. Dries hard. Should do a nice job with future spider cracks.

Oh and one of these weatherstrips should work nicely:
