I had some parts laying around from the PO and decided since I'm working on replacing all the rubber on my top I figured I would install the new door window wiper and back felt. Question was how do you do this? I read about having to take the top door frame off and that was going to be a problem since my door weatherstripping was glued to the frame and is still in good shape. The window didn't roll down far enough to access the felt or the rubber wiper. Hmm...

New loot to install. But wait, what is that black bracket in the background? That's the window stop - prevents the door from lowering any further. That was my solution! Remove it and hopefully the window lowered beyond the frame of the door. And luckily it did!

Removed the two screws that held it in place and voila! Window could be lowered below the door frame.

So then it was just a matter of removing the old window wiper and rear felt and installing the new one. Simple job! I was wondering what those little clips were for.

Somehow I ended up with an extra set of window wipers... not sure how that happened. Need to keep better track of my inventory!

Installed the driver side wiper/felt and new weatherstrip on the wing window.

Started the rust treatment of the rear hatch. Poured a bunch of rust doctor in there and swished it around. Still drying out so no photos of that.

Decided to soda blast the internal parts to get the surface rust off of it. Turned out pretty nice! Looks like just a couple of spots need some treatment.

And it will be nice to have a full, supple rubber gasket instead of the 3/4 crunchy one.

I did a very light blast so it appears the protective coating is still on there. But I can always hit it up with my Master Coat and that will protect it for the rest of its life.

Got some more OEM stuff! New battery tray, battery hold down, gaskets for my air cleaner, and new weatherstripping for my rear hatch! I'm often puzzled by the availability of some things and some things being long NLA...

Trying to rebuild my center arm but no luck getting that apart fully - got the pickle fork out and a really big BFH and that thing isn't budging. Sprayed some PB Blaster and will let soak overnight to see if that helps at all. If not I'll go rent a ball joint puller and see if that will work.

I have that and tried it - unfortunately the pivot is wider than a tie rod so it won't seat properly. I need something like this:

Figured since I had it all off and taken apart might as well make it look purdy. Blasted, primed, and painted! Installing that top cap will pretty much destroy the paint job so I will do some touch up when it is installed. And yes I cleaned up that little drip before it dried.

Tightening the top cap of the center arm is alot easier if you install it into the frame before attempting the cap. I used painters tape on the nut to protect the paint. Your 40 is looking better and better with every post.

Thanks so much! Good call on the painters tape I will do that. Yup, I was planning on installing that cap when everything was mounted back on the frame.

Since I was blasting figured I'd hit up the rear hatch arms - the bigger tubes were rusty and flaking thought I could blast it off pretty easily. Nope, chrome is tough even looking not great. Got enough off though and figured with some filler primer I'd get it smooth enough looking. Was looking good and one more coat would've done the trick. But of course I ended up dropping one. Bummer. Now need to wait and let that dry and sand it all off.

I'm going to paint it with some chrome colored paint, we'll see how it looks. I don't think it could look as bad as the flaky, rust arms but maybe it could. We shall see. I'm also going to do the hydraulic upgrade so there will really be no need to touch the arms.
