I have a 35x10.5x16 swamper under my truck, which is the skinniest 35 one can buy in a radial. It still looks stupid, but it fits. It wil not fit with any sort of tow hitch other than a pintle. When wheeling, I call it the "rubber skidplate." I don't have the spare tire lift mod, but from what I've read, that only lifts the front end of the tire, and wouldn't really reduce the tire-dragger aspect of it. Best practice is to strap it down in the back when doing any serious wheeling.

I originally voted "no way, I hate your face," but if this thing doesn't come on the market in a year or so, I may attempt something similar on my own. I'm ready to get the spare out from under the truck, or just get a mis-matched spare and plan on limping if it's ever needed.

Did this ever make it to production or can you buy a weld-it kit?

I realize this thread started five years ago and it appears Joey has put this on the back burner, but if it gets into production, count another buyer here. Just what I’m looking for — get my spare tire out from under my 80, without the weight and cost of a bumper. License plate relocate and options for an antenna and cans would be a plus. With Joey‘s name on it, you know the design and quality would be excellent.

Yep, would love to have one. Don't need a whole rear bumper, just a good way to carry my spare and maybe a highlift.

Certainly, somewhere in this great sphere of knowledge and experience someone could come up with a usable and production-ready model of this simple idea.

In the Tacoma / T4R world there’s the RIGD folks. I think this is their main product.

Coming up with a usable production design is the easy part. The difficult part is finding a vendor that is willing, and able to commit to delivering small batches of said product on time. And upon the agreed price while maintaining a high level of quality.

Well that's a shame.
The concept has so much potential for those not wanting to dish out for a custom bumper ( or add the weight), and run with a larger spare.

When I acquired AJIK this initial design was part of the package. Since then the fabrication shop and myself went back and forth on design updates based on current owner feedback. Roughly two years ago the fab shop had a massive computer failure which lost all of his and my files. It meant starting from scratch using the pictures I’ve posted. That was enough to back burner this.

Currently I’m in a frame of mind and a location where I can likely bring this back from the dead.

It would be a God-Send for quite a few of us. I've been holding off putting a carrier on mine simply because I haven't seen anything of the quality (and features) that yours promises to provide. And I simply won't settle for less.

Count me in the interested crew :hillbilly:

Kaymar did a really good spare wheel carrier for the 80 here in Australia that also bolts right onto the factory bumper. They made options for both sides of the vehicle. It was a simple design, and was clean and out of the way. They also haven't made it for years, dropped it in favour of their new ones that require a full custom bumper. There's a thread here with good pictures for the curious:
There are tons of these around in Australia, but driver's side ones (which I want) are hard to come by nowadays. If there was an option for a new one like this, I'd happily pay for it.
