Well, I've been wrong before (several times even today...) but I think the windshield is just nested in to the gasket. If I gave bad gouge I apologize profusely. One of my parts pigs has a cracked windshield, maybe I'll investigate.

I found a video for an FJ40 windshield install. They used the soap-on-a-rope method. I have to imagine the 55 is the same... I should have stayed quiet. 😖

I'm not sure but I do know the 80 windshield is installed the same way (e.g. with a rope) but it's also double glued.
I think the glue is an "extra". I've never bothered. They fit tight and don't leak. I think the video I posted above does show the guys putting some kind of caulking in the channels on the seal. Technique item? Not sure.

They don’t use the sealant anywhere unless they have to. If they do it’s between the gasket and frame, which is a bust anyways if they didn’t spend a good chunk of time cleaning the dirt and rust off of the frame.

I used to pop in/out VW Beetle windshields like that, but they are flat. I was a little nervous trying it on the pig. He used the rope trick, too. He put a spot of that black nasty sealant in the upper pass. side corner and the old gasket was fine for reuse. 👍

I'm just happy there is a source out there for our windshields, that doesn't cost an arm, because it's going to happen again.

They always glue my 80 windshield in per the FSM. I say always; both times. First they glue the gasket to the windshield. Then they rope it in. Then they lift the gasket and glue to the edge of the frame. And lastly they clean up the mess it makes.
