Who was it who sells a rear bumper/carrier kit?

I thought it was 4x4Labs, but it isn't.

Anyone remember who makes the weld-it-yourself kit?

I was part of a pilot project with 4x4Labs on rear bumper kits. Did Luke decide not to go through with it as a product? The bumper went together really well and it would be a shame for it not to be available to the DIY crowd.

4x4 labs makes them. Semlin has one

I was thinking it was around $1000 plus shipping.

His web site says $1300 to $3000 depending on the optios you want as he custom makes each one. You have to get to his home page and then click on the bumpers section.

Thats a great price for the kit vs the completed bumper. Too bad I don't have any welding skills.

I got pricing on the DIY kits from Luke a few weeks ago;
$495 for the basic bumper
$895 for single swing out bumper
$995 for double swing out bumper
- all the other things like bike racks and cooler holders were available as a DIY as well.

the really big savings is on shipping when it's coming over here to the east coast. Where talking the difference between a few boxes UPS and a pallet freighted.

I now have a Delux Kaymar that someone is interested in if I were to move on to a new bumper. And there is a new 80 owner kind of local who needs a bumper as well.

Who wants to head this up?

I don't want to head this up, but would very much like to throw a tentative hat in the ring. Or glove. Or whatever. Assuming that the place and time works out, I would be very interested in a DIY version of the bumper. Particualrly if somebody teaches me how to weld...

You don't need welding skillz, only a friend who does. :D

I will say that having a 220 is very helpful/necessary. I was also surprised how fast it really got done. Once the stock bumper is removed, it only takes a day to get the shell all done with the spindles on there and maybe another day to get the swing outs done. This is working at a leisurely pace as not to goof stuff up.

The pieces really fit together well. Very little grinding needed to get a perfect/near perfect fit. A very fun project!

That's a mighty tempting price, even though I'd still ahve to pay someone to put it together for me. The savings in shipping plus the reduced cost of the kit would probably still work out to be a $600-700$ savings over a complete unit.

Plus no paying tax and duty on the fabrication costs!
