Who was it who sells a rear bumper/carrier kit?

So can you get just the basic bumper and then at a later time add on two modular setups? Say a tire carrier and ladder? Just wondering. $500 is somewhat manageable, but throw on the two modules and it gets pricey, if the prices on the first page are correct.

one thing about the guys in the North East, we could have a pallet dropped off in Boston and I could deliver them during my normal work day. I do field service and drive the LC during the winter months. So it wouldn't be much hassle other than helping me out a little if I fall short on where you are.

I might be interested in a kit, too. Harrisburg, PA. I'm going to pay attention to this thread.

Sarah has some money she wants to put towards a bumper and I can kick in a little for the Holidays. How hard are these DIY kits and how hard is it to install the finished product.

I havn't welded up this bumper but if it all fits and you have 2 helpers it should be easy. One guy tacking stuff with 2 guys holding and you could fly. Get several trucks together for a group build with one welder and go assembly line style. the guy with welder could move between trucks while the crews positioned the parts.

When I built my rear bumper I didn't want to cut the rear crossmember and built around it. Now every time I get hung up I wish I had cut it off. I want to start over so bad.

Wow. Maybe I didnt read it right. So the basic DIY bumper from Luke is around five, but add on a tire carrier and ladder and its a grand? Is that with him fabbing the two swingouts or is that also DIY? I am really interested in on of his rear bumpers, but haven't heard back from him yet. I can imagine he is extremely busy though.

I think that the reason the bumper becomes more expensive so quickly with swingouts is that the spindles, bearings and races are expensive. The spindles Luke uses are really beefy.

Oh I see. Hmm. I'll have to email him again. I may just do the bumper and ask about adding other stuff later. Or just save up longer...

Can the spindles be welded on, but unbolt the tire mount when not 4x4ing? The wife says the rear tire would be a pain when loading and unloading groceries.

The spindles are welded on the bumper. The swing arms and bearings slide over the spindle and bolted on.

I'll have to ask if the bumper and spindles can be bought in the DIY kit for less than bumper and spindles, plus add-ons. That would make it easier. Then I could add on as I go.

DIY 80 REAR FROM 4x4labs

Thanks for the interest in the DIY labs bumper. I would like to address some of your questions/concerns regarding the kit. Most questions can be answered by checking out this link on MUD. I would check this out first.https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=158142This thread is in the vendor marketplace. The title is " 4x4labs 80 Series Rear Bumper Kit"A note about pricing. Here at the labs we do not post prices for the simple reason that steel prices go UP! You would be amazed at how many people have referenced a four or five year old thread with a price mentioned. People are not pleased when a price is mentioned and then they call and it is different, it doesn't seem to matter that the price quoted was ancient. So, therefor, current prices can be obtained by emailing me or calling the labs. I will then send you the current price list of everything we offer, from bumpers to spindles to power steering kits for your 40...we have alot of products that are not mentioned here.Check out the kit and build. Email or call me anytime with your questions.sales@4x4labs.com530.477.0140PS Group buys are always encouraged. The bumpers are 165lbs. kit or built, so shipping kits is the same as a Luke built bumper...tragically 200 for shipping on a 400-500 $ kit is sad...and we understand completely your concerns...so lets get a group buy together for the east coast! Let me know.PSS- The crossmember/completed bumper is WAY MORE BURLY than the stock cross member...PERIOD. Go to the link and you will see. This bumper, due to the fact that you will cut off the rear crossmember, has the best departure angle around. It is not for everyone. When you see one in person you will understand. When you see one drop off a ledge at Moab you will understand even more. Thanks again. The Labs

Sarah has some money she wants to put towards a bumper and I can kick in a little for the Holidays. How hard are these DIY kits and how hard is it to install the finished product. I heard his new bumpers did not require removal of the crossmember, is that true?

She likes the 4x4 labs, Hanna and Slee Bumpers. Just have to pick which one for her and her budget.

I installed my Slee rear bumper in two evenings working solo. It was relatively easy and no crossmember removal or cutting.

I went back and cut a 3"x3" hole through it and the cross member for a later project, but that is a different story.
