Which 100 spring?

Where did you get your spacers?

Kind of a mouse trap but kicking around the idea of 1" spacer, 866s and airbags...

This way I get a 3" lift without the stiffness and when loaded I could pump the airbags..

I run 866's with 30mm spacers. Great combo and looks fabulous. Slee sells the spacers.

I don't think that's a bad move. I run the 866's and it's pretty low in back, with just a fridge and no bumper. I'm thinking a 30mm spacer would be just right when I get a bumper to compensate, then I'm into the stiffer part of the spring pack forever. Though I do like how it handles with stiffer rear end so I could see going 864's if I don't like the 863+spacer combo, which would abandon the airbag idea. If I lose a tiny bit of flex offroad I don't care, there's a dial for that. :hillbilly:

I'm almost positive Romer runs 863's with 33's and a fully loaded rig. I've climbed in his truck, it's just right IMO. Although when I see his rig on the road, it looks tall, it just doesn't feel as tall when you stand next to it. Some photos of his rig are here.

That is what I run and I am real happy with the 863's. I ran them for two weeks (sorry no pics) before my storage drawers came in and they were fine then. I towed my camper to Ouray and it rode nice as well

and then fully loaded with an RTT, Gas and propane on the roof

Thanks Romer.

If you are running 866's but the soft part is compressed and not being used, what's the point? How different is the stiffer section of the 866 vs the 863?

@Romer: What would you say your rear lift is with those springs and all the gear on your truck? Is it 2" or closer to 2.5"? Does the lift height change noticeably from unloaded to loaded?
Thx

I found the answer to my own question :)

Spring rate:
863- 44N/mm
866- 42-52.5N/mm

So I guess my question becomes whether or not a rear bumper compresses the lightest coil or two effectively making it the same or stiffer than the 863.

My uneducated guess is your theory is correct: by the time you add a rear bumper, tools, maybe a fridge and drawers, your 866 springs are a little stiffer than 863 springs, and shorter.

Also some clarity on the above, Romer's running 863's. and it looks like a 1.5" drop in height when fully loaded, the setup with the gas and RTT being the worst case. Truck looks awesome though Ken, very happy. :grinpimp:

FWIW, I've run both without load and prefer the 863s all around if you're going to go OME. The 866 did not ride like I'd expect a heavy and stout vehicle to ride and I'm stating just my preference, I do not think the 863s ride horribly, in fact I found them quite soft; the stats (above) show only +2N/MM stiffer than the softest 866s ride, yet provide the appropriate lift.

Every 866 truck I see sags in the rear.

^^^ This was my experience with the 866 too: Its real world, under the rig, performance didn't match the published spring rate stats. That's what led me to the, then, 863...

Yep. My 866's sag as well. That is why I put 30MM spacers on. They ride great for my setup, but I did not see a 2" lift with them.

2.5" to 3. Since it had the 865's on it when I bought it, its hard to tell

All the pictures has the storage drawers fully loaded with tools and spare parts.

So you can see the difference in the first pic to the two in the desert loaded with stuff on the roof

and how it sits with a heavy camper on it

Would you consider this a 2" lift? This is 866 springs, no bumper, no 3rd row seats, just an empty fridge in back.

I actually like the ride height, but when I add more weight it will sag- my camper makes it go down at least another inch, to the chagrin of oncoming vehicles at night. That's why I'm thinking 864, would like to try a pair if someone has some!

^^^ to run 864 without being arse high you're going to need to have fully loaded drawers, rear bumper with tire carrier and full payload. The 864 is perfect for my rig, as equipped above, plus a 25-gallon aux tank...but a little soft when the 350lb tongue of the KK is hitched.

I run 864s on the wife's DD, 3rd row installed, rear slee &c. Trips are packed to GVWR, but even around town I don't mind the 864s at all. We will be pulling a hybrid camper here this summer and will debate putting 868s on the Hundy for that.

Here is how mine sits right now with 863's, BOIR rear, & fridge on 295's.

Fridge and no rear seats?

866 + 30MM spacers. I carry 150lbs in the back all the time.

So this is probably exactly what I'd look like with 863's and a bumper?

I have the 30mm spacers on my stock springs now, anyone interested?
